🔧 Maintenance Tech (Multifamily)

💰 $26.85 / hour

OVERVIEW

An established affordable housing organization in Chicago is hiring for its maintenance team. You'll be assigned a specific building within about 15 minutes of your home maintenance office. The role is union (SEIU Local 1), with on-call rotation and overtime built into the job.

🔨 WHAT YOU'LL DO

• Handle day-to-day maintenance work orders across your assigned group of buildings
• Do real variety of trade work — carpentry, painting, plastering, plumbing, HVAC, electrical, flooring, and lock repairs
• Turn vacant units: evaluate condition, scope the work, and get them rent-ready
• Keep preventive maintenance schedules current, including on your assigned vehicle
• Build material lists and work with the Maintenance Coordinator on supply inventory
• Walk buildings, grounds, and equipment regularly to catch problems early
• Prep buildings for outside agency inspections
• Take part in the on-call rotation and respond to after-hours emergencies — on-call shifts are paid whether or not a call comes in
• Communicate with residents professionally and courteously

🎯 WHAT IT TAKES

• 3-4 years of residential maintenance experience across carpentry, plumbing, HVAC, and electrical
• High school diploma or equivalent
• Comfortable with basic math and maintenance software (OneSite, HappyCo)
• Your own tools for the job
• A valid driver's license, reliable vehicle, and current auto insurance
• Able to lift and move up to 75 pounds
• Willing to be on-call and work overtime when needed
