Maintenance Technician

Pay $32 - $36 Hourly

1st, 2nd & 3rd Shift

This role is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and supporting automated warehouse equipment and material handling systems to maximize equipment uptime, safety, and operational efficiency.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Responsibilities:

General Maintenance:

  • Reassemble machines after the completion of repair or maintenance work.
  • Start machines and observe mechanical operation to determine efficiency and to detect problems.
  • Inspect or test damaged machine parts and mark defective areas or advise supervisors of repair needs.
  • Lubricate or apply adhesives or other materials to machines, machine parts, or other equipment, according to specified procedures.
  • Install, replace, or change machine parts and attachments, according to production specifications.
  • Dismantle machines and remove parts for repair, using hand tools, chain falls, jacks, cranes, or hoists.
  • Record production, repair, and machine maintenance information.
  • Read work orders and specifications to determine machines and equipment requiring repair or maintenance.
  • Set up and operate machines and adjust controls to regulate operations.
  • Collaborate with other workers to repair or move machines, machine parts, or equipment.
  • Inventory and requisition machine parts, equipment, and other supplies so that stock can be maintained and replenished.
  • Transport machine parts, tools, equipment, and other material between work areas and storage, using cranes, hoists, or dollies.
  • Collect and discard worn machine parts to maintain machinery and work areas.
  • Clean machines and machine parts, using cleaning solvents, cloths, air guns, hoses, vacuums, or other equipment.
  • Coordinate with vendors and manage Purchase Orders for maintenance/repair activities.
  • Perform hands-on maintenance and troubleshooting of automated case-handling, palletizing, and depalletizing systems. Vertique/System Logistics equipment experience strongly preferred.
  • Support and troubleshoot AGV/LGV fleet operations, including E80 Group (Elettric80) laser-guided vehicles, with experience related to navigation systems, battery/charging systems, and safety scanner troubleshooting.
  • Diagnose and resolve automation equipment issues involving PLC-driven controls, servo motors, VFDs/drives, conveyors, and robotic systems.
  • Interpret electrical, mechanical, and pneumatic schematics and utilize fault codes from automation HMI or SCADA interfaces to troubleshoot equipment issues.
  • Partner with OEM field service technicians and coordinate vendor support, Purchase Orders, warranty claims, and equipment repair activities.

MHE:

  • Conduct regular inspections of MHE, such as forklifts, conveyor systems, and pallet jacks.
  • Maintain detailed records of maintenance activities.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical and electrical issues.
  • Repair or replace faulty components.
  • Test repaired equipment to ensure proper functionality.
  • Ensure that all MHE is maintained to safety standards.
  • Troubleshoot equipment failures, provide root cause analysis, research potential warranty and repeat failures for continuous improvement.
  • Coordinate with vendors and manage Purchase Orders for maintenance/repair activities.
  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on automated warehouse systems within a high-throughput distribution, warehouse, beverage, or CPG environment.
  • Apply basic electrical troubleshooting skills on low- and medium-voltage systems while following established lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures.

Required/Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience maintaining and troubleshooting automated material handling systems in a high-throughput distribution, warehouse, beverage, or consumer packaged goods (CPG) environment preferred.
  • Familiarity with PLC-driven controls, servo motors, VFDs/drives, conveyor systems, robotic diagnostics, and automated equipment troubleshooting.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical, mechanical, and pneumatic schematics and troubleshoot equipment through HMI/SCADA interfaces.
  • Experience partnering with OEM field service technicians and managing vendor Purchase Order and warranty workflows.
  • Relevant certifications a plus, including OSHA 10/30, forklift/MHE operation, or manufacturer-specific automation training.
  • Lockout/tagout proficiency and demonstrated commitment to safe maintenance practices.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and/or experience:

  • Associate’s degree in Maintenance Mechanic or equivalent from two-year college or equivalent combination of education and experience. Bachelor’s degree is preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in automation technology, repair and maintenance of: Electrical, Diesel and Internal Combustion Forklifts; Aerial Lifts; Lift Trucks; and other related material handling equipment
  • Mechanical/conveyor, MHE/Electrical forklifts, hydraulic systems, docks and doors, welding experience

Knowledge, skills and abilities:

  • Strong organization skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Demonstrated attention to detail
  • Demonstrated ability to solve mechanical problems
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs
  • Ability to read and interpret equipment manuals and schematics
  • Knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems
  • Experience with forklift maintenance, and other industrial maintenance is highly valued
  • Specialty tools will be provided but must have own hand tools and willing to purchase what is needed to be successful in the role
  • Basic plumbing and handyman skills

Physical requirements:

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 51 pounds
  • Ability to work in a warehouse environment (concrete floors, changing temperatures)
  • Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including eye and face protection and/or respirator
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times
