Job Description

We are looking for hard-working, reliable and safety minded individuals to join our team as a Maintenance Technician/Operator. In this role you will be responsible for the timely and effective maintenance, trouble shooting, and repair. This will include low voltage electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical diagnostics. This position is based at our Laplace yard.

This position will work in varying weather conditions, and SA Recycling strictly adheres to all Metals Recycling Business Health, Safety, and Environmental standards.

Responsibilities for a Maintenance Technician/Operator

  • Conducts routine to moderately complex preventative maintenance and inspections on an auto shredder and associated equipment.
  • Completes routine maintenance tasks (oil and filter changes, lubrication, brake, etc.) on Heavy Equipment per manufacturer and SA Recycling recommendations.
  • Diagnose and perform mechanical repairs, adjustments, lubrication, and component replacement to minimize downtime.
  • Operate loaders, skidsteers, forklifts, and material handlers to move materials, load scrap, and support production operations.
  • Interact with yard General Managers to schedule routine or emergency maintenance or repairs.
  • Maintains a safe, clean, and orderly working area.
  • Safe and proper use of assigned vehicles, equipment, and tools.
  • Performs all tasks fully within SA Recycling’s Safety and Environmental practices and procedures.

Qualifications for a Maintenance Technician

  • Vocational/Technical degree highly desired.
  • Hydraulic, electrical, and diesel maintenance experience highly desired.
  • Willingness to work in varying weather conditions.
  • Must be willing to complete, and successfully pass a drug screen, physical and background check.
  • Bi-lingual (English and Spanish) a plus.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Climbing: Frequently. Ascending or descending stairs on a daily basis.
  • Stooping/Kneeling/Crouching: Occasionally. When needing to access office supplies or equipment or to work on systems, software or wiring.
  • Standing/Walking: Frequently. On a daily basis, within office building, as well as outside or within manufacturing plant.
  • Reaching: Continually. To retrieve supplies, equipment or files/paperwork.
  • Pushing/Pulling/Lifting: Occasionally. To move items within the office environment.
  • Grasping: Continually. To move office supplies or equipment, to write, or to operate hand or power tools.
