Maintenance Support Technician

This position is located in Tallahassee, FL.

This position reports to the Groundskeeping Supervisor I or II. This position must be able to work independently, be able to follow directions and instructions, and have the skill to serve as a crew leader in the absence of the supervisor. This incumbent shall provide assistance in maintaining the Capitol Center Grounds. Specifically, this position involves assisting the Maintenance Repairman in maintaining irrigation systems. Also, the incumbent will perform work maintaining trees and shrubs by trimming, fertilizing, and transplanting.

Maintenance Support Duties:

Assists the maintenance repairman in repair and maintenance of irrigation systems to include repairing heads, inventory, repairing lines, etc.
Also performs work maintaining trees and shrubs to include trimming, fertilizing, transplanting, etc.
Operates mechanized equipment in the care and maintenance of Capitol Center Grounds. Including turf, trees, shrubs, ground covers, annuals planting or other such plant materials.
Mows and edges turf, trims hedges and shrubs, waters landscape, plants foliage materials and other jobs associated with these actions.
Installs and operates Traffic Flow Control Systems. Uses flags, cones, signage and other devices.
Cleans grounds of trash and debris as required.
Checks fuel, oil, water, brakes, tires and equipment cleanliness as required.

Other Miscellaneous Duties:

Perform other related duties as required.
Ability to understand and take directions from supervisor, recognize problems or potential problems and communicate those findings to supervisor.
Perform groundskeeping duties as needed.



Public Relations Duties:

Incumbent maintains good public relations with peers, supervision and tenants in the building.
Establishes and maintains good working relationships with others.
Responds to all requests and inquiries in a professional and courteous manner.
Keeps supervisor fully informed regarding work-related activities, relevant issues, upcoming events and potential problems.
Ensuring requests for leave are submitted and approved in accordance with established rules and Division Procedures.
Adheres to established safety procedures and practices in the work area.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge of proper plant maintenance techniques, including mowing, pruning, and cleanup.
Ability to operate all equipment used by the Grounds Section including but not limited to all lawn mowing equipment, weed eaters, blowers, tractors and line marking equipment.

Minimum Qualifications:

One year of lawn care experience and one year of experience in the maintenance and repair of buildings, plumbing or electrical or mechanical equipment; or vocational/technical training in mechanical repair or one of the building trades can substitute at the rate of 720 classroom hours.
Valid and applicable driver’s license
