Position Information

TxDOT's San Angelo District is looking for a Maintenance Support Tech located in Big Lake, TX This administrative position works closely with the Maintenance Section Supervisor to keep the maintenance office running day to day. Duties include assisting with phone calls, employee onboarding, procurement, data entry, inventory, timesheets, and many other important functions. The ideal candidate is a good communicator and responds quickly and professionally via phone or email to members of the public, coworkers, and local government stakeholders. Maintenance Support Tech I Performs administrative support-related work in a maintenance office or district headquarters. Work requires contact with private entities. Employees at this level perform work independently on assignments; however, all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor.

Maintenance Support Tech II Performs administrative support-related work in a maintenance office or district headquarters. Work requires contact with high-level managers, executives, governmental officials and private entities. Employees at this level establish their own work plan and priorities to meet set objectives. Issues are rarely referred to the supervisor but are handled at the occurrence.

Essential Duties:


Maintenance Support Tech I essential duties include:

  • Answers the telephone, evaluates requests, answers questions, routes messages, and/or serves as a receptionist or front desk assistant.
  • Conducts monthly spot inventories, verifies inventory findings, reconciles and coordinates with Business Services on adjustments needed.
  • Edits correspondence, reports, forms, and documents for proper format, spelling, grammar, punctuation, typographical errors, syntax, style, sentence structure, content, and clarity.
  • Maintains and updates office files/records/logs and a wide variety of automated systems in support of personnel, finance, budgeting, maintenance, inventory, contracts, purchasing, travel information, and/or permitting activities.
  • Monitors the use of equipment and transfers.
  • Prepares statistical reports and verifies for accuracy and completeness.
  • Processes change orders, supplemental agreements, and extra work orders.
  • Reviews and processes records of completed maintenance projects.
  • Reviews, prepares and/or negotiates applicable program purchases for services, office materials, supplies, tools and/or equipment and monitors contracts.
  • Maintains calendars for department personnel to include scheduling meetings, coordinating and making appointments, and travel arrangements.
  • Processes receipts and invoices for payment.
  • Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.

Maintenance Support Tech II essential duties include those listed above and:

  • Maintains materials inventory.
  • Researches and compiles information for reports or inquiries and assists in organizing, coordinating and preparing written or statistical reports.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:

High School Grad or Equivalent in general education

Experience:

Maintenance Support Tech I None

Maintenance Support Tech II 1 year in administrative or clerical support, customer service, or related experience.

Licenses and Certifications:

Valid driver’s license. This position requires driving a state vehicle.

  • Inventory/stock control procedures
  • Purchasing methods and procedures
  • Dealing courteously and effectively with the public
  • Administrative support practices and procedures to include writing, editing and report writing techniques, recording meeting notes, record keeping and records management
  • Preparing correspondence/documents using correct spelling, grammar and punctuation; proofreading and reviewing documents for clarity and consistency
  • Preparing and maintaining confidential and sensitive records, files and reports
  • Using computers and applicable programs, applications, and systems
  • Maintaining a safe and effective working relationship with others
  • Follow verbal and written instructions
  • Protects sensitive and confidential information
  • Shows initiative and action beyond what is required to improve products or services; is self-starting and completes assignments independently without constant supervision

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • Sedentary work: Lift up to 10 lbs at a time and occasionally carry files/small tools
  • Light work: Lift up to 20 lbs at a time and frequently lift or carry objects up to 10 lbs
  • Sitting - prolonged periods of time
  • Standing-prolonged periods of time
  • Repetitive Motion-substantial movements of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers
  • Close Visual Acuity-work includes data/figures; view a computer screen; extensive

Conditions of Employment:

  • Must pass a drug test prior to employment.
  • Required to work during emergency situations
  • Required to work weekends and holidays.
  • Required to work hours other than 8 to 5.
  • Employee may be contacted after hours and on weekends to respond to emergency situations and must be able to respond within 60 minutes of notification.
