The Hillsboro Maintenance Section at TxDOT’s Waco District is seeking a dedicated Maintenance Support Tech II, III, or IV to join our team in Hillsboro, TX. This administrative role provides essential support to the Maintenance Section Supervisor and plays a key part in ensuring smooth, day‑to‑day operations.


Key responsibilities include assisting with damage claims; answering and directing phone calls; supporting employee onboarding; handling procurement; performing data entry; managing inventory; completing timekeeping tasks; and carrying out other vital administrative functions.

Salary Range:
Maintenance Support Tech II (A15): $38,976 - $58,045/annually
Maintenance Support Tech III (A17): $42,976 - $64,469/annually
Maintenance Support Tech IV (A19) $48,244 - $76,028/annually

Performs administrative support-related work in a maintenance office or district headquarters. Work requires contact with high-level managers, executives, governmental officials and private entities. Employees at this level establish their own work plan and priorities to meet set objectives. Issues are rarely referred to the supervisor but are handled at the occurrence.

Essential Duties:
Maintenance Support Tech II

  • Assists with data entry for construction record-keeping
  • Coordinates and tracks the progress of projects and/or specialized programs and informs supervisor or other Department
    officials of status.
  • Maintains materials inventory
  • Monitors equipment mileage and service records.
  • Researches and compiles information for reports or inquiries and assists in organizing, coordinating and preparing
    written or statistical reports.
  • Answers the telephone, evaluates requests, answers questions, routes messages, and/or serves as receptionist or front
    desk assistant
  • Conducts monthly spot inventories, verifies inventory findings, reconciles and coordinates with Business Services on
    adjustments needed.
  • Maintains and updates office files/records/logs and a wide variety of automated systems in support of personnel, finance,
    budgeting, maintenance, inventory, contracts, purchasing, travel information, and/or permitting activities
  • Processes receipts and invoices for payment
  • Performs other job responsibilities as assigned

Maintenance Support Tech III (in addition to the above):

  • Inputs and maintains daily production reports and compiles monthly reports for manager.
  • Logs, files, and cross-references correspondence; and verifies documents/records
  • Coordinates with district personnel with annual inventory of supplies, stockpiles and minor equipment

Maintenance Support Tech IV (in addition to the above:

  • Composes and prepares correspondence and applicable recurring or special one-time reports and/or confidential and
    sensitive communications
  • Provides information and assistance pertaining to procedures, laws, rules and/or regulations; refers customers to
    appropriate source for problems or questions; processes special applications and reports
  • Trains other clerical or technical staff

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:

High School Grad or Equivalent in general education.

Experience:

Maintenance Support Tech II:

1 year of experience in administrative or clerical support, customer service, or related experience. (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent). College education and/or relevant technical training may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis. Substitutions for Minimum Qualifications

Maintenance Support Tech III:

3 years of experience in administrative or clerical support, customer service, or related experience. (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent). College education and/or relevant technical training may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis. Substitutions for Minimum Qualifications

Maintenance Support Tech IV:

4 years of experience in administrative or clerical support, customer service, or related experience. (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent). Licenses and Certifications:

Valid driver’s license. This position requires driving a state vehicle.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

MST II-IV:
