Job Description

General Purpose:

The Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for daily maintenance of production mechanical, electrical equipment, external equipment, and building maintenance and grounds. This includes but not limited to, processing equipment, building lighting, utilities, and computer systems and networking. Works closely with the production department to optimize facility operations. This supervisor is also responsible for the reliability, uptime, and availability of DFA assets to perform as designed when scheduled. This position is responsible for driving daily improvement throughout their area(s) of influence and manages the continuous preventative maintenance program, completes audits & inspections and implements corrective actions to fix those items identified at risk.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Continuously drive the facility’s culture toward a higher level of safety. Challenge status quo safety behaviors, engage in Safety initiatives and ensure safety related training is attended by all employees.
  • Identify and retain highly effective personnel through proper selection, training and task assignment of personnel.
  • Identify and implement developmental plans and training for supervisors and support staff reporting directly and indirectly to ensure skills in welding, sheet metal, steam generation, refrigeration, instrumentation are current and progressive in nature
  • Establish and manage the department’s budget to ensure financial goals are met or exceeded.
  • Ensure the department’s activities remain in or exceed the standards and specifications established by Quality Assurance.
  • Food safety and regulatory responsibilities, and responsible for meeting the requirements of the SQF Food Safety Code for Manufacturing, and shall report food safety problems to personnel with authority to initiate action.
  • Supervise assigned Maintenance Mechanics and Electrical Technicians
  • Schedule maintenance activities with hourly employees
  • Facilitate transitions of engineering projects to operations
  • Resolve equipment, computer, security, and telephone breakdown issues
  • Create, approve, process, track and distribute work orders
  • Recommend, implement, and manage P.M. Program along with the Maintenance Systems Coordinator
  • Identify and resolve maintenance problems associated with production process and equipment.
  • Requisition, purchase and assist Maintenance System Coordinator to manage the maintenance spare parts and store inventory.
  • Implement, audit, and manage 5S standards within their areas of responsibility
  • Engage and interact with all personnel on a regular basis assisting them with their concerns and questions.
  • Drive key performance indicators to all levels within the organization and participate in making recommendations for necessary changes to enhance the business objectives.
  • Initiate and drive continuous improvement activities in department, operations, and other areas of the facility as part of the team to ensure plant sustainability.
  • Manage employee’s performance through establishing expectations, holding people accountable and developing the understanding of the sense of urgency in addressing Operational needs.
  • Partner with other departments regarding the resolution of ongoing problems, the implementation of new procedures or process, the injection of new products or product lines, and the development of new plan and designs.
  • Manage and ensure good business communication practices are engaged at all levels to ensure key stakeholders are well informed, have the ability to appropriately respond.
  • Oversee and ensure all process changes, equipment changes or product changes are understood by all employees in a timely fashion.
  • Ensure a decisive understanding of budgeting, uptime, problem solving techniques, motivational techniques, long range planning, and Employee & Labor Relations are understood and implemented during the course of business.
  • Other duties may be assigned as required that are within the FLSA status of this position.

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field or Technical Degree with 3 years of related experience
  • 3-5 years supervisory experience
  • 3+ year experience in a Manufacturing environment
  • Skills that foster good working relationships with all levels within the organization
  • Computer skills- Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
  • Computer systems, networking, and telephone system troubleshooting
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Must be able to read, write and speak English

Preferred Qualifications

  • Food, Beverage or Pharmaceutical manufacturing experience
  • Journeyman or apprenticeship in skilled trades
  • Advanced computer skills- SAP, MP2
  • Electrical and Instrumentation certification
