REPORTS TO: Maintenance Facilitator

FLSA STATUS: Exempt

SUPERVISES: Craftspeople

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for the safe, cost effective and productive utilization of assigned employee personnel, equipment and tools and contracted resources is the support of all equipment and systems in assigned production area to meet targeted business objectives.

The Area Maintenance Supervisor essential functions include:

Safety

  • Provide the safety leadership for the assigned crew and manage individual accountability for safety performance.
  • Conduct safety awareness training.
  • Perform safety audits, including lockout tag out compliance and random tool inspections.
  • Conduct SI when necessary.
  • Review scheduled work assignments and include safety awareness with work assignments.
  • Develop plans to meet safety objectives.
  • Comply with all Safety, Environmental, and Quality Regulations.

Planning and Scheduling

  • Manage equipment repairs, working closely with vendors and purchasing
  • Provide timely updates on status of machine shop work that supports production downtime events
  • Organize and plan daily/weekly work priorities and requirements based off the needs of the plant
  • Quickly assess Emergency and Urgent work and execute by breaking into the daily or weekly schedule as required.
  • Ensure work gets assigned to each crew member at the beginning of their shift.
  • Review job plan feedback from craftsmen and supply back to planning for updates.
  • Ensure that scheduled outages are communicated to the Operations group.

Supervision

  • Directly supervise ongoing work of Crafstman for adherence to best practices and quality procedures.
  • Inspects work performed by the crews for quality and quantity
  • Consistently enforce company policies, procedures, and reliability practices.
  • Manages quality of the shop, working with the quality department, technical personnel, and outside vendors as needed for assistance
  • Assist craftsmen throughout the day removing obstacles and maximizing Wrench Time.
  • Management of crew manpower schedule – timecards, vacations, etc.
  • Collaborate with the Maintenance Training Coordinator to manage the development of the crew.
  • Comply with all safety, quality and environmental regulations

Preventive Maintenance

  • Ensure that preventive maintenance is performed and audit those efforts.
  • Review plans for thoroughness and effectiveness. Make recommendation to improve the program.

Communication

  • Maintain a communications path among operations, maintenance, planning and engineering which supports the priorities for the assigned areas.
  • Ensure priorities are reflective of the plant wide planning efforts, staffing, and training.

Production priorities

  • Work closely with production team so that business needs are appropriately addressed.
  • Support operations training.
  • Provide feedback to production which will improve their effectiveness.

Organizational Responsibilities

  • Manage to target staffing requirements.
  • Manage the performance and development of the crew members assigned.
  • Responsible for making work assignments which will result in the development of lesser experienced crew members

Qualifications

EDUCATION:

Bachelor's Degree preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience.

EXPERIENCE

This person will possess:

  • 5-7 years previous supervisory experience.
  • Excellent problem solving skills.
  • PC skills, including Windows, Word, and Excel.
  • Familiarity with Computerized Maintenance Management (CMMS) software. (Maximo is preferred)
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) and organizational skills.
  • Proven ability to work in teams.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Lean Manufacturing knowledge are preferred.
  • Knowledge of metal industry and associated business processes is preferred.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Approximately 20% of the job function is performed in an office setting requiring normal safety precautions. 80% of the job function is required in the plant. There is exposure to operating machinery and a manufacturing environment.

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
