About the Role

Reporting to the Maintenance Shutdown Coordinator, the successful candidate will provide frontline leadership and oversight during planned shutdowns and outages across fixed plant assets.

The Shutdown Supervisor is responsible for coordinating and supervising daily shutdown activities including technicians, contractors and multiple work fronts. Ensuring all tasks are completed safely, to standard, on schedule and within scope.

This role plays a critical part in monitoring progress, resolving issues in real time and escalating risks as required to minimise disruption and ensure effective use of resources.

Responsibilities include:

  • Provide frontline leadership during shutdowns, supervising technicians, contractors and multiple work fronts
  • Coordinate daily shutdown activities to ensure work is completed safely, on schedule and within scope
  • Lead pre-start meetings and toolbox talks, reinforcing safety and shutdown priorities
  • Monitor compliance with permits, isolations and high-risk work procedures
  • Conduct field leadership activities, including inspections, safety observations and hazard management
  • Track progress against the shutdown schedule and adjust resources and sequencing as required
  • Identify and resolve issues in real time, escalating risks and variances where necessary
  • Liaise with the Shutdown Coordinator and control room to provide accurate progress updates and field feedback
  • Ensure quality of work and completion standards are met, including work pack closeout and documentation
  • Support continuous improvement through participation in shutdown reviews and lessons learned

About the Candidate:

  • Trade qualification in Mechanical or Fabrication/Boilermaking
  • Demonstrated supervisory experience in shutdowns, maintenance or heavy industry
  • Proven experience supervising contractors and coordinating multiple work crews
  • Strong technical knowledge of fixed plant equipment (e.g. crushers, mills, conveyors, pumps)
  • Ability to interpret drawings, schematics and maintenance documentation
  • Solid understanding of high-risk work controls, permits and isolation procedures
  • Experience working with shutdown schedules and critical path activities
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to make sound decisions under pressure
  • Effective communication and leadership skills across all levels of the workforce
  • Proactive approach to safety, risk management and continuous improvement
