The Iowa Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), Division of State-Operated Specialty Care, Bureau of Cherokee Mental Health Institute (CMHI) is seeking a Maintenance Repairer to join our team in the HVAC/Plumbing shop! This is a full-time position with a Monday – Friday, 6:30 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. schedule.
This Maintenance Repairer installs, maintains, and repairs a variety of fixtures including sinks, toilets, urinals, bathtubs, shower units, automatic flush valves, faucets, and traps, as well as sewer and water lines, chemical dispensers, drinking fountains, laundry equipment, kitchen equipment, and other related equipment as needed. This position performs plumbing repairs, replacement of pipefittings, and pipe insulation throughout the hospital. This position also serves as a backup to the HVAC Technician, installing, maintaining, and repairing air conditioning units, commercial refrigeration units, freezers, ice machines, and changing HVAC unit filters monthly. The successful candidate will complete assigned work orders in maintenance and repair work daily.

CMHI provides active inpatient treatment to adults in need of acute psychiatric care. The facility offers several services including individualized treatment plans. Support for patients with special education needs to continue their education is provided, and individuals are encouraged to collaborate with staff members in formulating their own plan.
