Division Within the Maintenance Department at ELMHS, located in Jackson, LA

The Mission of ELMHS is to provide mental health evaluation, treatment, habilitation, and consultation for adults. Programs include inpatient interventions, jail-based evaluations, supervised group home and residential programs, forensic evaluation, care, custody, and aftercare; intermediate and long-term psychiatric care are coordinated with the total system of care in Louisiana

ELMHS is looking for a skilled and motivated individual to join the team in the Maintenance Department. Here, the work can come in a wide range of trades, from carpentry to HVAC and more!

Examples of duties

One year of experience or training in the building construction trades, building maintenance, maintenance or repair of mechanical equipment, or park operations and grounds maintenance; OR

Six semester hours in construction management, construction technology, or engineering, or any combination of these courses.

Job Duties:

In this role, you will:

  • Be responsible for maintaining and ensuring the appearance of the hospital grounds.
  • Must be able to operate all power and handheld equipment such as: Weed eaters, weed trimmers, lawn mowers, both riding and push, chainsaws, power edger, power blowers, etc.
  • Duties include but are not limited to: cutting grass and weed-eating around stationary structures, trimming the hedges, picking up branches that have fallen out of trees, and, at times, cutting limbs out of trees.
  • Make repairs in the following fields:
    1. Plumbing: Unstop commodes and sinks, repair water & sewer lines, etc.
    2. Carpentry: Repair broken furniture, re-hang entrance door and cabinet doors, hang bulletin boards, pictures, etc.
    3. Electrical: Change light bulbs; replace receptacles, switches, repair small appliances, washers, dryers, change out ballast, etc.
    4. HVAC/Refrigeration: clean and replace air conditioner and heating filters, change out heat strips in A/C with heater units, make repairs to the window A/C.
    5. Painting: Preparing surfaces before painting i.e., scraping off old paint, filling in holes, etc.
  • Maintain and make general repairs to all grounds equipment.
  • Maintain a valid, unencumbered driver’s license.

Career Progression: This position may be filled as a Maintenance Repairer 1 or 2 depending on the qualifications of the selected applicant.
