Provides technical expertise and coordination for the maintenance of highways and facilities in accordance with Department standards. Work requires contact with governmental officials and private entities. Responsible for coordinating, leading, and/or training others in a variety of aspects of maintenance programs. Employees at this level are virtually self-supervising and assume direct accountability for the work product.

Essential Duties:

  • Administers safety certification program
  • Assists in the development and review of policies
  • Coordinates programs and projects to enhance efficiency and streamline operations.
  • Develops and oversees a maintenance quality control evaluation program for all district roadways.
  • May serve as a lead worker and the related tasks
  • Provides technical expertise and coordination for maintenance operations including prioritizing projects, monitoring correspondence and writing memorandums and reports
  • Researches and evaluates data, interprets and analyzes results, prepares reports and recommends solutions to problems
  • Trains other employees in various aspects of maintenance programs.
  • Performs other job responsibilities as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

Education High School Grad or Equivalent in general studies.

Experience 5 years experience in transportation maintenance, construction inspection or related activities. (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent). College education and/or relevant technical training may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis. Substitutions for Minimum Qualifications

Licenses and Certifications Valid driver’s license. This position requires driving a state vehicle.

Competencies:

Extensive knowledge of

  • Methods, procedures, equipment, and materials used in intermodal transportation engineering construction and maintenance work
  • Applicable inspection methods, procedures and techniques
  • Materials used in highway/bridge construction and maintenance
  • Applicable laws, rules, and regulations

Considerable knowledge of

  • Applicable industry safety standards, guidelines, and specification codes

Proficient skill in

  • Planning, coordinating and handling multiple projects within area of responsibility to meet short and long-term deadlines
  • Preparing and maintaining confidential and sensitive records, files, and reports
  • Interpreting applicable information
  • Using computers, applicable programs, applications, and systems

Other Attributes

  • Exercises logic and reasoning to define problems, establish facts and draw valid conclusions; makes decisions that support business objectives and goals

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • Subject to environmental conditions; protection from weather but not temperature changes
  • Subject to outside environmental conditions; no effective weather protection
  • Subject to inside and outside environmental conditions
  • Subject to extreme cold and heat; below 32 and/or above 100 degrees for more than one hour
  • Walking-moving on foot to accomplish tasks: long distance/from one work site to another
