Job Description

Job Title: Maintenance Planners
Location: Ontario locations
Schedule: Full-time; 12-hour days, 2 weeks on, 2 weeks off, unless otherwise specified.
Accommodation: Camp accommodation with a private bathroom or fully furnished accommodation with a private bathroom.
Flights Paid: The company covers flights at the start and end of a 14-day shift for remote site work.
Meals: Provided when in camp - Meal allowance provided when not in camp
Tools Provided: Necessary tools and software access will be provided.

We are seeking a skilled, detail-oriented Maintenance Planners to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will manage the maintenance planning process for a wide range of heavy mining and construction equipment, ensuring equipment is properly maintained and operationally ready. This role will provide superior customer service as a representative for Big Country.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and manage detailed maintenance plans for fixed and mobile heavy mining and construction equipment, focusing on preventive and predictive maintenance to ensure operational readiness.
  • Utilize a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS), SAP, or similar to plan, schedule, and optimize maintenance activities, ensuring alignment with operational needs and minimizing disruptions.
  • Collaborate closely with operations, maintenance supervisors, and technicians to ensure the timely documentation and completion of planned maintenance tasks.
  • Monitor equipment performance and analyze maintenance records to identify trends, potential issues, and opportunities for improvements.
  • Coordinate maintenance activities with other departments to minimize operational impacts, including managing scheduled shutdowns.
  • Prepare and distribute weekly asset maintenance schedules, and ensure all necessary resources, including labour, tools, and parts, are available in advance.
  • Maintain accurate equipment history records, including component tracking and work order management.
  • Work with Reliability Engineers, Supervisors, and Technicians to implement continuous-improvement initiatives that enhance equipment reliability and performance.
  • Ensure compliance with all local, provincial, and federal safety and environmental regulations throughout maintenance activities.
  • Assist the planning team in developing and refining Bills of Materials (BOMs) for routine and preventative maintenance tasks.
  • Support procurement efforts by ensuring materials are sourced efficiently and work closely with warehouse and purchasing personnel.
  • Become familiar with Big Country's products and services to provide information upon customer request.
  • Other duties within the scope of work as assigned.
  • Vacation coverage for the same or a similar role when required (vacation coverage, etc.).

Requirements:

  • 3 to 5 years of experience in a maintenance planning role, preferably in the mining or heavy equipment industries.
  • Extensive experience with heavy equipment maintenance, particularly with Caterpillar equipment, will be considered an asset.
  • Strong working knowledge of CMMS (SAP, JDE) software for maintenance scheduling.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with various departments and teams.
  • Experience working in a multicultural and diverse environment is an asset.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Outlook, Excel, and Word. Experience with MS Project is a plus.
  • Trade certification or equivalent experience in maintenance practices is considered an asset but not required.

All Successful Candidates Must:

  • Be proficient in English, both verbal and written.
  • Have a valid Class 5 Driver’s License.
  • Provide a minimum of 2 direct supervisor references.
  • Pass a Criminal Record check.
  • Legally able to work in Canada.
  • Provide a clean 5-year driver’s abstract.
  • Pass an 8-panel drug test (including marijuana) and an alcohol breath test.
  • Be able to lift 50 lbs. comfortably.
  • Not seeking sub-contractor roles (we are not offering subcontractor opportunities at this time).
