Maintenance Planner– Port Colborne, Ontario
Location: Port Colborne Ontario
Position Type: Salary - Full –Exempt
Shift: Day shift – 6am to 3pm – Monday to Friday

About the Role
The Maintenance Planner will be responsible for daily oversight as well as long-term vision of maintenance strategies associated within the whole complex. This is a unionized facility of which the Maintenance Planner indirectly supervises approximately 14 hourly colleagues and is directly responsible to the to the Maintenance Superintendent.
The successful candidate will need to exhibit a mastery of the following responsibilities: safety, quality assurance, food safety/environmental compliance, government legislations & laws, cost management, capital disciplines and colleague development.
The Maintenance Planner will work with department supervisors to establish and/or maintain appropriate preventative maintenance for efficient operation of the plant. Will be expected to maintain facility, structure, utility and related infrastructure and systems. Take a hands-on active role in managing maintenance department and employee performance
What You’ll Do
- Serve as a key member of Site Leadership team
- Play active role and coach others in programs including human safety, food safety, quality, environmental standards, and Performance Excellence (CI)
- Ensure department is supporting the goals of the Plant and other departments
- Provide exceptional leadership and guidance:
- Ensure all employees, visitors, vendors, contractors understand and comply with safety policies and procedures
- Support production departments in safety and quality, including audit compliance
- Align, deploy, execute the ADM Milling Maintenance and Reliability vision/strategy
- Maintain operational equipment to function as designed or expected
- Manage and implement preventative maintenance and reliability activities
- Lead and support root-cause analysis/5-Why processes within the maintenance team regarding failures, EDT and execute plan to correct
- Develop, review, analyze maintenance/reliability metrics and performance
- Management On-Call
- Assist operations leadership in training personnel on proper operations, cleaning, lubrication, troubleshooting, and adjustments to production equipment
- Manage an effective storeroom and spare parts inventory to ensure that needed parts are available
- Coordinate maintenance program to schedule work with/around production schedule
- Maintain an effective equipment and work history, and preventative maintenance program using Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS)
- Ensure that all maintenance work is documented
- Manage ongoing maintenance and reliability-related projects
- Asset reliability and defect elimination
- People management and development including retention, recruiting, and team engagement
- Identify training opportunities and needs
- Facilitate training sessions for maintenance and site personnel, focusing on precision skills training and development, safety practices and work standards
- Ensure healthy planning and scheduling process is functioning for the facility
- Lead Plant to maintain personnel and process safety:
- Maintain an environment in which personal safety is top priority
- Ensure team works safely and department maintains compliance with all health and safety regulations
- Ensure operation of the site is carried out with all permits, laws, regulations, and best practices
- Align department goals with plant goals
- Communicate direction and priorities to department, leveraging a structured management system
- Ensure plant’s adherence to established product, environmental, safety, housekeeping and quality guidelines
- Demonstrate ADM Core Values in decision-making and actions
- Collaborate with other work groups to develop a strategic vision for the department, put into action through the department deployment plan
- Support Quality and Food Safety Management Systems
- Model the Performance Excellence Journey:
- Lead and coach team to leverage continuous improvement tools to achieve department and plant KPI's
- Ensure deviations from KPIs and incidents are driven to Root Cause elimination by team
- Demonstrate commitment to improving safety, processes, and efficiency of the plant by delivering department deployment plan in ‘what’ (metrics) and ‘how’ (means)
- Work in collaboration with Centers of Excellence to improve the operations technology and reliability
- Effective Communicator:

What You Bring

- Computer skills, capability with Microsoft Products
- Can work in all types of climates including extreme hot/cold temperatures, noisy, dusty environments, all of which require Personal Protective Equipment
- Able to climb stairs, access ladders, catwalks, elevated working platforms
- Some lifting, sitting, standing for long periods, working at heights, bending, kneeling, respirator-qualified
- Willing to work rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays
Education and Experience
- Prior experience leading/supervising people
- Have one of the following trade certificate: 433A - Millwright or 309A - Electrical
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (or equivalent experience) and 7 years of supervisory experience preferred
- Experience in extraction, grain handling at scale, oilseed processing, or manufacturing and oil refining would be beneficial, but not required

- Regular, reliable attendance and willingness to work overtime as needed
