Job Title: Maintenance Operator - Operations Technician

Work Place Flexibility: Onsite

Legal Entity: Entergy Arkansas, LLC

*This position will be filled as a Maintenance Operator (MO) Helper 1, 2, Operator 1, Operator, or Operations Technician (OT) based up on the experience and qualifications of the selected candidate.*

PURPOSE:
Responsible for the reliable and safe operation of utility power boilers and turbine/generator equipment including continuous monitoring and understanding of the equipment's normal operating parameters and limits. Uses a distributed computer system which consists of multiple software components that are on multiple computers but operated as a single system. Builds on a thorough understanding of power plant systems and operating practices and following startup/shutdown procedures as well as providing instructions to operating and maintenance personnel.

JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for performing operating functions which includes continuous monitoring of equipment, operating valves, understanding power plant systems, starting and stopping of equipment, isolating and restoring equipment for maintenance following a Lock Out/Tag Out (LOTO) procedure, monitoring boiler water chemistry and making operational rounds in a safe and reliable manner
  • Facilitates and coordinates shift safety meetings for all personnel on the same shift to promote and ensure a safe work environment which includes the use of human performance tools
  • Mentors and/or provides training to develop other employees in the operations training progression plan while leading the effort to develop and review operating procedures and rounds
  • Uses elementary principles of mechanical measuring devices, instruments, controls, and regulating devices as used in generating plants. Troubleshoot, identify, and make repairs to the plant equipment including performing preventative maintenance tasks
  • Applies knowledge and experience with principles of operation and function of steam boilers, turbo generators, pumps, heaters, steam traps, piping systems, pressure and level regulators and their controls, and auxiliary systems
  • Comply with all Fossil Safety Processes/Practices, Utility Group Safety Process, Environmental policies/practices, participate in the Monthly Safety Meeting, and open to participation on the Safety Committee or the Awareness Team
  • During unit outages, provide contractor management, quality control, cost management and schedule management
  • Interface / communicate with internal and external organizations/customers (dispatchers, directors, contractors, etc.)


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Minimum education required of the position
High school diploma or GED or equivalent work experience

Minimum experience required of the position
5-7 years’ experience as a maintenance operator or equivalent process operator.

Preferred:

  • Contractor coordination experience
  • Project experience
  • Leadership experience

Minimum knowledge, skills and abilities required of the position
Knowledge of the principles of operation and function of steam boilers, turbo-generators, pumps, heaters, steam traps, piping systems, pressure and level regulators and their controls, and auxiliary systems. The ability to read prints and schematics while troubleshooting and maintaining plant electrical and I & C related equipment. The ability to climb scaffolds, stairs and ladders. Must be team oriented and self-motivated. Must possess the initiative to perform tasks independently and provide timely and concise feedback upon request. Possess a winning attitude to achieve departmental, plant and corporate goals. Should possess basic computer knowledge to obtain the required skills needed to use the Entergy fossil applications time and labor (Electronic Timesheet Application) and AIMM (Maintenance Management System). Knowledge of the elementary principles of mechanical measuring devices, instruments, controls, and regulating devices as used in steam electric plants.

Successful completion of the EEI POSS/MASS test.
