About the role:

Provide a high standard of gardening and grounds maintenance across all Barunga Village facilities, ensuring gardens, lawns, outdoor areas, and landscapes are safe, attractive, and well maintained in accordance with quality assurance standards and Barunga Village Inc.'s policies and procedures.

Responsibilities of the role:

  • Maintain all gardens, lawns, landscaped areas, pathways, verandahs, and outdoor spaces to a high standard, ensuring they are safe, clean, attractive, and well-presented.

  • Undertake routine gardening activities including mowing, edging, pruning, weeding, planting, mulching, watering, fertilising, and pest control.

  • Monitor and maintain irrigation systems to ensure the health and sustainability of gardens and grounds.

  • Identify and report any hazards, maintenance issues, or safety concerns within outdoor areas and facilities.

  • Assist in the planning and development of gardens and outdoor spaces to enhance the environment for residents, visitors, and staff.

  • Support the preventative maintenance of outdoor equipment, garden tools, and grounds-related infrastructure.

  • Perform minor maintenance repairs and complete maintenance requests as directed.

  • Ensure the appropriate collection and disposal of garden waste, rubbish, and recyclable materials.

  • Assist with setting up and maintaining outdoor areas for resident activities, events, and visits.
    Undertake local courier duties as required, including the collection of stores and transportation of materials for repair or servicing.

  • Communicate effectively with staff, residents, contractors, and visitors, documenting relevant information as required.

  • Contribute to maintaining a physical and psychosocial environment that promotes the privacy, dignity, individuality, wellbeing, and rights of residents.

  • Respond appropriately to unexpected situations within the scope of own skills, knowledge, and competence.

In addition to these responsibilities, any other duties in line with the employee's skills and experience, as directed by Maintenance Manager.

About you:

Essential qualifications and experience

Experience in general maintenance duties such as gardening, repairs, minor building works and preventative maintenance.

Desirable qualifications and experience

Previous experience in an Aged Care Facility or similar environment.

Knowledge of Residential Care Standards and the Community Care Common Standards under the Aged Care Act 1997 and the Residents Rights under the Retirement Villages Act.

Knowledge of Work Health Safety and Welfare Act and possess an understanding of the required responsibilities as an employee.

Demonstrate an awareness of the legal implications of actions taken in aged care.

Core competencies

Demonstrated competence in maintenance delivery and a knowledge base for safe practice.

Keen interest in gardening

Possess sound interpersonal skills and written / verbal communication skills

Ability to work as an effective team member and maintain confidentiality.

Ability to prioritise tasks to best meet the needs of the residents and Barunga Village Inc.

Ability to empathise with residents, relatives and staff in a caring manner.

Physical fitness appropriate for duties, which involve prolonged and significant activity including lifting, walking, bending, climbing and stretching.

Special conditions

Some out of hour's duties may be required from time to time.
