of Work

This position is located at Neuse Correctional Institution in Goldsboro, North Carolina. This is a medium custody male facility. The primary purpose of this position is to perform preventive and routine corrective maintenance task and repairs in multiple trades ensuring that assigned systems within an Adult Correction Facility and support buildings are maintained in a safe and efficient manner.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences

This position is required to have multiple trade skills to allow the individual to deal with the variety of maintenance tasks that will have to be dealt with on a routine basis such as emergency generators, gate operators, plumbing systems, electrical systems, fence repair, HVAC/Refrigeration systems, low pressure boiler systems, pneumatic systems, security doors and commercial kitchen equipment. This position is required to function at the Journey level for mechanical/plumbing and at least two other trades preferably HVAC/Refrigeration and Electrical and perform at the semi-skilled level for other trades. This person will be expected to supervise the work of skilled, semi-skilled and unskilled labor (including offenders) to assist him/her in completing assigned tasks and provide support to other staff members in the area of routine corrective and preventative maintenance and other duties assigned by the supervisor as deemed necessary.

· Requires a thorough knowledge of low-pressure heating plant operations.

· Ability to work from sketches or drawings.

· Must possess the ability to operate the more common types of power tools and machine shop equipment.

Necessary Special Qualification:

MAY require current certification by the Environmental Protection Agency as a Type I, II, III or Universal Technician as required by Title 40, Code of Federal Regulations Part 82, Subpart F.

About the Division of Institutions

The Division of Institutions manages the daily operations of all state-operated prison facilities across North Carolina. Facilities are categorized by custody levels (minimum, medium, close) and house individuals serving sentences for felony convictions. The division provides safety, security, and rehabilitative services through trained custody staff, program facilitators, and administrative personnel.
