Job Description

Under limited supervision, repairs or maintains machines, trucks, vehicles, mobile equipment and plant equipment. Performs the less exacting and routine work. Performs routine preventive maintenance. Performs a sequence of operations on an assigned project within limits of standard procedures which have been set up for the work. Requires a moderate degree of manual skill.

Compensation:

$25.75/hour (non-exempt)

This is a Union position with 1 opening.

Reports to: Fleet Maintenance Manager, Lead Maintenance Mechanic

Essential Duties

  • Works from oral instructions, written specifications and/or simple blueprints.
  • Selects material and tools required.
  • Regulates, manipulates and controls acetylene cutting and welding electric-arc with a moderate degree of skill.
  • Dismantles, cleans, and maintains machinery, equipment, trucks and vehicles with a moderate degree of skill.
  • Uses required hand and power tools, equipment, and machinery with a moderate degree of skill.
  • Maintain written records of parts/tires replaced, work performed and time spent on jobs in accordance with fleet standards.
  • May specialize in certain phases of the trade.
  • Helps plant operator and/or mechanic in maintenance and adjustments of plant equipment, trucks, vehicles, mobile equipment and/or machinery.
  • Changes and repairs tires for all mobile equipment. Drives motor vehicles to relocate and test vehicles. Reports malfunctions such as rapid tire wear or uneven wear, indicating wheels are out of alignment.
  • Services various pieces of mobile equipment by checking and adding fuel, oil, and water as required, cleans battery terminals, cleans and washes vehicles; records usage.
  • Reports to supervisor equipment malfunctions.
  • Keeps work area clean by sweeping and picking up rubbish.
  • Performs work with due regard to safety of self and fellow employees, and with proper care and protection of company property.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualification/Requirements:
  • Must have knowledge of standard procedures and methods required for efficient and normal completion of required tasks.
  • Requires excellent written and verbal communication and organizational skills.
  • Requires relating to people in a friendly and professional manner.
  • Requires working to the established procedures and maintaining reliable work attendance.
  • Requires the ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Able to think and make effective decisions quickly.
  • Ability to create effective working relationships with people.
  • Must be able to maintain a positive attitude and work under pressure.
Required Work Cards/Certifications:
  • Valid Hawaii Driver’s License and successful review of Motor Vehicle Record

Physical Requirements:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, talk, and hear.
  • The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distant vision, and color vision.
