Job Description

Residency Requirement

Employees must be Boston residents on their date of hire and for the duration of their

employment subject to BWSC policies and collective bargaining agreements.

Responsibilities

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Install, alter, replace, repair systems for BWSC facilities and those systems owned or controlled by the Commission. Repair and maintenance of BWSC sewer systems may be required. Install, alter, repair and maintain pipe lines, fittings and fixtures for BWSC water distribution and sewer collection systems. Install, alter, repair and maintain hot and cold pipelines within and outside of properties under BWSC control. Read blueprints or drawings of water system plans. Measure, cut, thread and lay pipe for water lines. Change meters and other water distribution equipment. Investigate reported leakage and test joints for leakage. Thaw frozen water pipes; drill and tap water mains; shut-off and turn-on water lines; perform pressure checks, operate hydrants and take water samples. Detect and locate causes of plumbing failures and breakdown of equipment. Draw plans and sketch diagrams of plumbing systems. Use hand tools and equipment commonly used in the plumbing trade. Complete and submit daily activity log, work orders and other related paperwork. Perform other duties as required. Required to work any emergency as directed by the BWSC.

Qualifications

REQUIREMENTS:

High School Diploma or GED is required. Valid MA Driver's license is required. Journeyman Plumbers License is required. Thorough knowledge of City of Boston plumbing codes is required. Thorough knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions particular to the plumbing trade. Ability to read and write reports; interpret blueprints or diagrams; and draw sketches of water and sewer systems and equipment is required.
