Job Title: Mechanic II – 1st Shift

Location: Tupelo

Reports To: Maintenance Manager

The Mechanic II maintains facility equipment and systems through preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair activities while supporting safe, reliable, and efficient operations.

Responsibilities:

  • Read, complete, and document work orders, including recording maintenance activities and corrective actions taken.
  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on machinery, equipment, and building systems in accordance with manufacturer specifications and approved maintenance practices.
  • Diagnose equipment and machinery malfunctions, determine appropriate repair methods, and perform mechanical and minor electrical repairs.
  • Install, relocate, and maintain machinery, equipment, and related systems with minimal supervision.
  • Read and interpret architectural drawings, mechanical prints, schematics, and technical documentation.
  • Perform welding, brazing, soldering, cutting, and pipe fabrication activities using approved methods and equipment.
  • Cut, thread, bend, flare, weld, and install piping systems.
  • Assist electricians with branch circuit wiring, motor and control wiring, troubleshooting, and equipment installation.
  • Design, construct, and modify jigs and fixtures to support production operations.
  • Support maintenance supervision and departmental objectives as required.
  • Perform other maintenance, facility, and production support duties as assigned.
  • Maintain good housekeeping standards and promote a safe, cooperative work environment.
  • Operate forklifts and other powered industrial equipment safely.
  • Participate as a member of the Emergency Response Team and support hazardous material response activities.
  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, quality, and cost effectiveness while removing obstacles to productivity.
  • Work independently to prioritize workload, manage multiple assignments, and meet deadlines in a changing production environment.
  • Pick up parts, materials, and supplies from local vendors as required.

Knowledge, Skills, Experience:

  • Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to troubleshoot and repair industrial equipment and systems.
  • Knowledge of preventive and corrective maintenance practices.
  • Proficiency in the use of hand tools, power tools, and maintenance equipment.
  • Experience using precision measuring and diagnostic instruments, including micrometers, calipers, dial bore gauges, tachometers, vacuum gauges, and velocity meters.
  • Working knowledge of machine shop equipment and practices, including lathes and milling machines.
  • Proficiency in welding, brazing, soldering, oxy-acetylene cutting, and related fabrication techniques.
  • Knowledge of piping fabrication and installation practices.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, schematics, and technical manuals.
  • Basic understanding of electrical systems and troubleshooting techniques.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to understand and apply basic mathematics, including fractions, decimals, measurements, and simple equations.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong problem-solving, organizational, and time-management skills.
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and production demands.

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to stand, walk, climb, crawl, bend, stoop, kneel, push, pull, and reach throughout the workday.
  • Ability to lift and carry materials, tools, and equipment as required.
  • Ability to work safely in manufacturing environments that may include heat, humidity, noise, moving machinery, and hazardous materials.
  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including respirators, safety glasses, steel-toed footwear, gloves, and other protective equipment.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding work for extended periods.
  • Ability to work overtime, extended shifts, weekends, and flexible schedules, including periods when 12-hour days and six-day workweeks may be required to support production demands.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and maintenance documentation.
  • Ability to perform mechanical repairs and preventive maintenance activities.
  • Ability to safely operate maintenance tools, equipment, and machinery.
  • Valid driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of industrial maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Multi-craft maintenance experience including mechanical, welding, fabrication, and basic electrical troubleshooting.
  • Forklift certification.
  • Emergency Response Team and/or HazMat training experience.

Work Environment:

  • While performing the duties of this role, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical equipment and airborne particles commonly found in a manufacturing environment.
  • Routinely exposed to noise levels ranging from low to moderate, with hearing protection required in designated areas.
  • Work may be performed in varying temperature conditions, ranging from normal indoor temperatures to occasionally elevated temperatures depending on the season, facility conditions, and work location.
