Performs intermediate semiskilled work regularly maintaining county assets and facilities, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the moderate supervision of the Operations Division Manager.

Examples of duties

  • Assists with preventive maintenance on the HVAC Control System
  • Assists with routine plumbing, which includes repair and replacement of drains, wastes and vents piping; repairs and replaces of potable water distribution lines; repairs and replaces fixtures.
  • Assists with routine electrical repair; installs and repairs light fixtures, wiring, boxes, conduit, switches and receptacles; trouble shoot circuit problems; install wiring; repair tools and related equipment.
  • Assists with carpentry duties; demolishing structures, renovating rooms, office spaces and buildings; building custom cabinets, counters, benches, book cases, shelving, computer stands, work stations and miscellaneous wood related projects; repairing broken furniture; assembling new furniture; maintaining a woodworking shop; drawing rough drawings/blueprint plans for projects.
  • Assists with Performing general maintenance and repair for all county buildings, facilities and grounds; move offices from one location to another; perform glass work, floor covering replacements and concrete work.
  • Paints interiors and exteriors of buildings and facilities; install drywall; stain and finish woodwork.
  • Assembles furniture and related assets.
  • Performs locksmithing, glass work, flooring installations, and painting as directed or assigned.
  • Assist with the maintenance, repair and installation of various types of mechanical equipment such as heat pumps, window units, boilers, gas burners, air vents, exhaust fans, air compressors, etc.
  • Performs assigned functions as a Disaster Ready Team (DRT) member, if appointed or volunteer.
  • Performs related tasks as required.

Qualifications

Basic knowledge of the technical aspects of carpentry, assembly, mechanical, electrical and painting; thorough knowledge of the use of tools and equipment; thorough understanding of the functions of each of the assets and facilities; ability to diagnose problems without delay; ability to read and understand technical plans, instructions and overall direction; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and ability to carry out work assignments as directed.

Physical Requirements:

This work requires the regular exertion of up to 25 pounds of force, frequent exertion of up to 50 pounds of force and occasional exertion of up to 100 pounds of force; work regularly requires standing, walking, speaking or hearing, using hands to finger, handle or feel, reaching with hands and arms, pushing or pulling, lifting and repetitive motions, frequently requires climbing or balancing and stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling and occasionally requires sitting; work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; work requires visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, using of measuring devices, assembly or fabrication of parts within arms length, operating machines, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities; work regularly requires working near moving mechanical parts and frequently requires exposure to wet, humid conditions (non-weather), working in high, precarious places, exposure to fumes or airborne particles, exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals, exposure to outdoor weather conditions, exposure to extreme cold (non-weather),
exposure to extreme heat (non-weather), exposure to the risk of electrical shock and exposure to vibration; work is generally in a loud noise location (e.g. grounds maintenance, heavy traffic).

Supplemental information

High school diploma or GED and considerable experience in semi-skilled building trades, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preference given to candidates with experience in basic maintenance and operation of HVAC control systems and other building mechanical systems associated with the HVAC system.

Special Requirements:
Valid Driver's License

Salary will be determined based on qualifications, internal equity, budget, and market considerations.
