Job Description

Job Responsibilities

The Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for assembling, maintaining, and repairing equipment and vehicles. Other duties include ensuring functionality and reliability of machines, engines, and mechanical systems throughout the company fleet of equipment. This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

  • Build and assemble machines or mechanical components according to requirements
  • Inspect machines, engines, transmissions etc. and run diagnostic tests to discover functionality issues
  • Performs minor and major electrical/mechanical/welding repair of processing and support equipment and facility grounds.
  • Conduct repairs aiming for maximum reliability
  • Order and maintain necessary parts for equipment repairs
  • Collaborate/communicate with Plant Manager and Supervisor on equipment repairs/downtime for planning of yard operations
  • Troubleshoot reported problems and resolve them in a timely manner
  • Perform thorough maintenance on machinery, equipment and systems
  • Maintain all safety devices and systems on equipment in accordance with regulations and Koppers Zero Harm principles
  • Clean and apply lubricants to machinery components
  • Replenish fluids and components of engines and machinery
  • Provide consultation on correct maintenance and preventative measures to machine
  • Undertake other duties as assigned
  • Maintaining a clean and safe work environment

Candidate Qualifications/ Requirements

  • 3+ year experience & High School Diploma or equivalent; Preferred Technical School degree
  • Welding experience, Welding Certificate preferred
  • Experience with air compressors, gear boxes, pumps, valves, hydraulics.
  • Use of hand tools, power tools
  • Highly organized and detail oriented.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Willingness to work varied hours whenever necessary to achieve the desired results, including call-ins and overtime.
  • Strengths in the following character qualities: dependability, resourcefulness, patience and flexibility.
  • Ability to work with various machines and tools
  • Knowledge of various types of heavy equipment
  • Strong mechanical knowledge
  • Ability to fill out logs on all equipment worked on
  • Must have a safety-first mindset

Candidate Preferred Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent preferred
