Responsibilities & Qualifications

Novelis Corporation, the global leader in rolled aluminum and can recycling, has opportunities at its Terre Haute, IN plant for experienced Maintenance Technician. The preferred candidates will need to be fully committed to engaging in safe working practices, driven to learn new processes and procedures, and have the ability to work as part of a team to achieve Novelis Focus 5 goals in EHS, Quality, Operational Excellence, Customer Centricity and Return on Capital Employed. The plant is located at 5901 N. 13th Street, north of the city limits.

Mechanics work closely with the maintenance and engineering staff to support the maintenance needs of a heavy industrial, manufacturing unit. The Industrial Mechanic is responsible for the installation, repair, and maintenance of sophisticated electro-mechanical equipment and must demonstrate skills to diagnose and repair problems and perform preventative maintenance inspections.

Responsibilities:

  • Must be a leader in safety and be a safe worker who demonstrates concern for personal safety and safety of others.
  • Install, repair, and maintain components of industrial equipment
  • Work as a team member, or independently, to complete projects
  • Make decisions based on technical documents
  • Flexibility in shift schedule/coverage
  • Using Maintenance planning/scheduling/completion software
  • Perform troubleshooting testing and repairs
  • Coordinate functions with operations to reduce unplanned downtime
  • Perform LOTO
  • Solve, repair, and perform mechanical and electrical preventive maintenance, lubrication, repair and adjustment of sophisticated electro-mechanical equipment.
  • Perform mechanical repairs on industrial drive trains including gear boxes, gear trains, sprockets, chains, belts, pulleys; replace bearings.
  • Recognize and perform machine adjustments to various manufacturing machine systems, operational interlocks, and sensors
  • Perform pipe fitting, welding and brazing
  • Operates mobile equipment including forklift, articulating, and rotating boom hoist, telescoping hoist, scissors lift, pick-up truck.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of High School Diploma or GED - In some cases, candidates may have an Associate's Degree in a related field
  • Three to five years' experience as industrial mechanic
  • Capability to perform physically tasks, such as lift heavy objects, climbing ladders, crawling, etc.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills along with proficiency in digital literacy
  • Ability to read schematics, blueprints, and other technical documents
  • Ability to work from drawings and sketches - must demonstrate comprehension of engineering specifications and technical manuals
  • Willingness to train and improve knowledge and skills
  • Knowledge and hands on experience in hydraulics, pneumatics, pipe fitting, pumps, and power transmissions
  • Knowledge of bearing installation, lubrication, alignment, and failure causes
  • Proficiency in welding, lubrication, and rigging

Novelis’ Terre Haute facility is located in the center of the Wabash Valley about an hour drive from Indianapolis. The region is named for the nearby Wabash River. The facility’s 175 employees produce world-class light gauge aluminum that is used in the production of aluminum foil containers and household foil.
