Job Description

Reporting directly to the General Manager with a functional dotted-line relationship to the Area Fleet Director, the Maintenance Manager will oversee the complete maintenance lifecycle for our Delta Organics facility. You will be responsible for driving uptime, operational excellence, financial performance, and an uncompromised commitment to safety across a diverse site asset base—including heavy yellow iron, specialized organic processing machinery (aggregators, screeners), site facilities infrastructure, and a local fleet of heavy-duty dump trucks.

Safety is fundamental to everything we do at GFL. The Maintenance Manager will serve as a champion for workplace safety, ensuring that all equipment maintenance, shop operations, and facility practices strictly adhere to GFL safety standards, WorkSafeBC regulations, and provincial commercial vehicle compliance guidelines.

This is an active, working leadership role: you will lead by example on the shop floor, actively coaching and getting into the work alongside technicians to mentor your team while maintaining high standards for work order accuracy, SKU/parts compliance, P&L discipline, and asset reliability.

What’s in it for you:

  • Benefits: Competitive benefits plan, including Retirement Saving Options, for future financial security.
  • Prioritized orthodontic and vision coverage.
  • Life Insurance.
  • Competitive wage.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Hands-on Mentorship & Leadership: Actively coach, mentor, and train maintenance technicians through hands-on, on-the-job training—getting into the work directly with the team on the shop floor to elevate technical execution and safety standards.
  • Unwavering Commitment to Safety: Lead by example to build and enforce a safety-first culture across all maintenance and shop operations. Ensure full compliance with WorkSafeBC rules, GFL corporate safety protocols, PPE requirements, and safe work procedures (SWPs) to minimize incident rates.
  • Fleet & P&L Management: Manage maintenance financial performance to target budgets. Ensure 100% of labor hours, parts, and preventative maintenance (PM) logs are accurately accounted for and tracked within GFL's fleet management software.
  • Inventory & SKU Compliance: Perform routine inventory counts, direct parts procurement using approved SKU channels, and maintain audit-ready records to maximize inventory accuracy and control site operating costs.
  • Asset & Facility PM Schedules: Review, establish, and strictly enforce preventative maintenance schedules across all heavy equipment (yellow iron), specialized organics processing machinery, and site infrastructure to minimize cost per operating hour and prevent safety hazards.
  • Compliance & Inspections: Drive a culture of accountability by establishing and enforcing mandatory pre/post-trip inspection protocols on all vehicles and mobile assets in compliance with provincial safety standards (CVSE) and corporate fleet policies.
  • Facilities Maintenance & Cleanliness: Establish standardized operating procedures (SOPs) for ongoing facility upkeep, site cleanliness, and equipment hygiene across the Delta site to maintain a safe, hazard-free working environment.
  • Team Development: Build and execute structured technical training plans to ensure long-term career growth, skill progression, and safe working habits for all maintenance personnel.
  • Key Performance Indicators (KPIs): Success in this role will be directly measured by the following core fleet and operational metrics such as Cost Per Operating Hour, P&L Budget Management, Adherence with SKU Compliance, Preventative Maintenance Compliance and Quality, and Incident Rates.

Requirements:

  • Proven experience leading maintenance teams across heavy equipment (yellow iron), specialized industrial processing machinery, and heavy-duty commercial truck fleets.
  • Strong financial acumen with experience managing maintenance budgets, tracking cost per operating hour, and controlling operational P&Ls.
  • Strong background as a working lead, shop supervisor, or lead technician with a passion for hands-on, on-the-job training.
  • Deep commitment to occupational health and safety regulations (WorkSafeBC) and corporate safety frameworks.
  • Proficiency with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) or modern Fleet Management Systems for tracking parts, labor, and work orders with high SKU compliance.
  • Solid understanding of BC Commercial Vehicle Safety and Enforcement (CVSE) compliance standards and corporate fleet management frameworks.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage parts inventory, establish facility SOPs, and foster a strong safety culture on the shop floor.
  • Trade Certification: Red Seal / Journeyperson credential as a Heavy Equipment Technician, Commercial Transport Technician, Automotive Technician, Industrial Mechanic (Millwright), or similar trade background with high mechanical aptitude preferred.

If you're ready to be part of a dynamic team and contribute to our commitment to sustainability, we invite you to apply! Join GFL, where your skills are valued, and opportunities for growth are limitless.
