Maintenance Manager

Location: Eugene, OR

Base Salary: $85,000 - $100,000

Annual Bonus: Cash 10% and Equity 10%

Schedule

This role supports a high-volume maintenance operation that runs across two shifts:

• Day Shift: 4:00 AM - 2:00 PM
• Night Shift: 1:30 PM - Midnight
• A dedicated Swing Shift Supervisor provides leadership coverage for the second shift.

The Maintenance Manager's schedule is flexible and based on operational needs. Typical hours are generally around 6:00 AM - 4:00 PM, though start times may vary between 4:00 AM and 7:00 AM depending on staffing, shop priorities, and business demands. This is a hands-on leadership role that requires visibility across both shifts and a commitment to supporting the team when needed.

What You'll Do

As the Maintenance Manager, you'll oversee all aspects of fleet maintenance, shop operations, technician development, safety, compliance, and financial performance.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and champion a world-class safety culture, ensuring adherence to all company, DOT, OSHA, and regulatory requirements.
• Recruit, train, mentor, and develop mechanics, preventive maintenance technicians, and shop personnel.
• Foster a collaborative and accountable team environment focused on quality, efficiency, and customer service.
• Direct daily shop operations, including work assignments, scheduling, and prioritization of repairs and preventive maintenance.
• Maintain fleet reliability through effective maintenance planning and equipment management.
• Oversee parts inventory, purchasing, vendor relationships, and cost controls.
• Prepare purchase orders and negotiate competitive pricing for parts and outside repair services.
• Coordinate third-party maintenance vendors and outside repair providers as needed.
• Assist technicians with troubleshooting, diagnostics, and repair strategies for trucks and heavy equipment.
• Perform road calls and emergency support when necessary.
• Manage shop compliance with all regulatory agencies and company standards.
• Partner with regional leadership on monthly forecasting, budgeting, and long-term maintenance planning.
• Monitor maintenance costs and ensure departmental performance remains within budget targets.
• Communicate regularly with the Region Maintenance Manager to support fleet performance and operational objectives.

What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications

• 5+ years of progressive maintenance leadership experience in truck, fleet, heavy equipment, transportation, waste, construction, or related industries.
• Proven ability to lead, train, motivate, and develop maintenance personnel.
• Strong knowledge of diesel engines, air brake systems, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, and preventive maintenance programs.
• Experience managing maintenance budgets, cost controls, and operational performance metrics.
• Strong understanding of DOT requirements and fleet compliance programs.
• Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Ability to obtain a CDL within 90 days of hire.

Preferred Qualifications

• Waste industry experience.
• Experience managing union employees
• Trade school or technical certification.
• Experience managing large fleet maintenance operations.
• Familiarity with maintenance management software and fleet tracking systems.
