MISSION (Commander’s Intent)

Lead a high-volume maintenance operation that keeps critical fleet and heavy equipment safe, reliable, and ready for daily service. This role ensures all vehicles and equipment remain operational — enabling 20–30 essential routes and supporting teams who depend on consistent uptime. Success means creating a culture where safety, accountability, and technician development drive performance every day.

PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES (First 12 Months)

  1. Fleet Readiness:

Achieve 95%+ equipment availability across all fleet assets through proactive maintenance scheduling and rapid repair turnaround.

  2. Safety Leadership:

Enforce a zero-incident safety standard through daily toolbox talks, disciplined LOTO procedures, and compliance training.

  3. Team Development:

Coach and upskill a team of diesel technicians, fostering cross-training and readiness for complex diagnostics and repairs.

  4. Operational Excellence:

Implement process improvements that reduce unplanned downtime by 20% and increase shop productivity.

  5. Cost Management:

Maintain budget control on labor, parts, and third-party repairs while sustaining high service quality.

  6. Compliance & Documentation:

Ensure all maintenance records meet federal, state, and internal audit standards.

FIT TRAITS (Human Profile)

  • Hands-on, lead-from-the-floor style; earns trust through credibility and presence.

  • Values safety and mentorship as core leadership behaviors.

  • Confident diagnosing mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems.

  • Decisive under pressure; prioritizes people and process equally.

  • Communicates clearly across levels — from technicians to executives.

  • Models integrity, respect, and continuous learning.

WHY THIS ROLE MATTERS

This position safeguards the reliability of every route and operator who depends on properly maintained equipment. The Maintenance Manager is the linchpin between operational safety, service quality, and community trust — leading people, not just machines. Excellence in this role ensures uninterrupted service, sustained fleet longevity, and a culture where technicians take pride in precision and purpose.
