Maintenance Manager (Lynchburg, VA)

The Maintenance Manager is a key leadership role responsible for ensuring optimal performance and reliability of material handling equipment, powered industrial trucks, robotics, and automated systems at our Lynchburg fulfillment center. This position combines strong technical expertise with team leadership to drive a reliability-based maintenance strategy.

The ideal candidate will lead a skilled maintenance team, manage vendor relationships, and implement best practices to achieve operational excellence while meeting key performance indicators (KPIs) for equipment uptime, maintenance cost control, and safety compliance.

RESPONSIBILITES:

  • Lead and develop a high-performing maintenance team, fostering a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement across two distribution centers and multiple shifts.
  • Serve as the technical authority for electrical systems, controls, and automation, including PLC programming, troubleshooting, and integration of robotics and advanced material handling technologies.
  • Drive reliability-based maintenance strategies, transitioning from reactive to predictive and preventative maintenance programs using data-driven insights.
  • Establish and monitor maintenance KPIs, including equipment uptime, mean time between failures (MTBF), mean time to repair (MTTR), and maintenance cost per unit shipped.
  • Develop and execute preventative and predictive maintenance schedules, leveraging CMMS tools and analytics to optimize asset performance.
  • Collaborate with operations leadership to align maintenance priorities with business objectives and support peak performance during seasonal and high-volume periods.
  • Manage vendor relationships for specialized repairs, spare parts procurement, and contracted services, ensuring quality and cost-effectiveness.
  • Control maintenance budgets, identifying opportunities for cost savings and efficiency improvements without compromising reliability or safety.
  • Champion safety initiatives by ensuring compliance with OSHA and other regulatory standards, promoting proactive hazard identification, and driving a zero-incident culture.
  • Champion team development through structured training programs, skills assessments, and career progression planning to ensure technical proficiency and readiness for emerging technologies.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Industrial Technology, or related field
  • Certified Maintenance & Reliability Professional (CMRP) or similar certification
  • Electrical or Controls certification a plus
  • Proven leadership experience managing maintenance teams in high-volume, automated distribution environments.
  • Strong technical expertise in electrical systems and controls, including PLC programming, troubleshooting, and integration of automated systems.
  • Hands-on experience with material handling equipment, robotics, and powered industrial trucks.
  • Advanced troubleshooting skills for mechanical, electrical, and control systems, with the ability to resolve complex issues quickly and effectively.
  • Experience implementing reliability-based maintenance strategies, including predictive technologies such as vibration analysis, thermography, and condition monitoring.
  • Ability to analyze and act on maintenance KPIs, driving continuous improvement and operational efficiency.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to influence cross-functional teams and align maintenance strategies with business objectives.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access).
