Job Description

Maintenance Journeyman - HVAC Technician - 2026-2027

of Position Function:

  • The HVAC technician provides HVAC services with the responsibilities of repairing/replacing HVAC equipment.
  • Though each maintenance journeyman will be assigned areas of responsibility, the maintenance journeyman will operate as a team to assure the effective and efficient operation of the maintenance shop.

Pay Classification/Benefits Information:

  • Salary Grade M50
  • $22.39 - $37.03 per hour
  • Pay rate is determined by years of experience

  • Assist in the responsibility for the efficient/safe operation and condition of boilers, heaters, furnaces, exhaust fans, air handlers, systems with variable speed drives, air conditioners, commercial equipment, water heaters, and chillers in the facilities owned or operated by the district
  • Perform heating and cooling repair work as assigned in a timely manner
  • Perform the routine maintenance of HVAC systems in district facilities
  • Recommend/secure supplies and equipment for purchase
  • Examine district-owned and operated facilities regularly for purposes of preventive maintenance and safety
  • Complete classes and/or training to stay updated with new technologies.
  • Demonstrate mechanical aptitude and the ability to read blueprints and schematics
  • Ensures that all HVAC units conform to safety codes
  • Reads and interprets blueprints, diagrams, and schematics
  • Maintains inventory of parts and supplies
  • Participates in snow removal by driving snowplow vehicles and other snow removal equipment
  • Respond to emergency calls at night or on weekends
  • Attend department meetings and staff training as requested by supervisor(s)

Additional Duties:

  • Performs other related tasks as assigned by the principal(s).

Qualifications Desired:

  • Experience at the journeyman level
  • HVAC-specific training and/or schooling with certifications
  • Valid EPA Certifications
  • Knowledge of applicable building, safety, and codes
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints, diagrams, and schematics
  • Ability to prepare rough sketches of work and estimate materials and labor
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others

Travel Requirements:

Travels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.
