Job Description

Aviagen is looking for a Maintenance II position for our operations and is responsible for keeping facilities operating efficiently, repairing any problems when they are found, and performing preventive maintenance on buildings, structures and grounds as needed.

  • Perform preventive maintenance on hatchery equipment, machinery, and facility systems according to established schedules.
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and plumbing issues.
  • Respond promptly to equipment breakdowns to minimize production downtime.
  • Install, modify, and test new equipment and machinery as needed.
  • Maintain incubators, hatchers, conveyors, ventilation systems, pumps, generators, and other hatchery equipment.
  • Conduct routine inspections to identify potential maintenance issues before equipment failure occurs.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records, work orders, and inventory of repair parts.
  • Ensure all work complies with company safety standards, biosecurity protocols, and applicable regulations.
  • Coordinate with hatchery management and production staff to schedule maintenance activities with minimal disruption.
  • Assist with facility improvements, construction projects, and general building maintenance.
  • Maintain a clean and organized maintenance shop and work areas.
  • Participate in emergency repairs and be available for on-call maintenance as required.
  • Must be able to read, understand, and follow task specific instructions,
    such as Lock-out/Tag-out procedures.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required; technical or vocational training in industrial maintenance, electrical systems, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years of maintenance experience in an industrial, agricultural, manufacturing, or poultry environment preferred.
  • Working knowledge of electrical, mechanical, plumbing, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.
  • Ability to read equipment manuals, blueprints, and technical diagrams.
  • Basic computer skills for maintenance tracking and documentation.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
  • Valid driver's license may be required.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb ladders, and work in confined spaces.
  • Comfortable working in hot, cold, humid, and noisy environments.
  • Ability to work around live poultry while following strict biosecurity procedures.

Work Conditions

  • Exposed at times to airborne particles, such as dust and dander.
  • Exposed to various noise levels, sometimes exceeding the 85-dBA action level set by OSHA. Proper PPE hearing protection will be provided by the company in these areas.
  • Over the course of assigned tasks, a person in this position will be exposed to chemicals, such as detergents, and disinfectants.
  • May be exposed to very hot temperatures, very cold temperatures, snow, sleet, ice, etc.
  • Exposed to farm related smells and foul odors.
