Job Description
Job Title: HVAC Technician
The Tooele County School District is seeking an HVAC Technician to oversee the care and maintenance of all buildings and help maintain a safe and sanitary facility for students, employees, and the public. They will ensure that all assignments are completed in a safe, proper, and timely manner. This role supports Tooele County School District's Strategic Model, which promotes creating safe learning environments and resource efficiency. The ideal candidate prioritizes student well-being, effective collaboration. Performs general HVAC duties at various facilities. Installs, maintains, services, and repairs various HVAC and refrigeration systems throughout the Tooele County School District. The HVAC Technician reports directly to the Facilities Maintenance Director.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of electrical processes.
- Experience working on VAV controls.
- Electrical experience working with a variety of voltages (24,120, 208, 240, 277, 480)
- Good working knowledge of commercial rooftop units (RTU) and air handler units (AHU).
- Electrical experience in both AC and DC voltages.
- Knowledge of the refrigeration process.
- Knowledge of electric motors and fans.
- EPA 608 certification.
- Experience working with variable frequency drives.
- Knowledge of O/M Manuals and wiring schematics.
- Experience working with commercial HVAC building control systems.
- Experience working with boilers and boiler controls.
- Knowledge of different types of heating systems.
Essential Functions
- Ability to troubleshoot/repair all types of HVAC equipment, including hydronic & steam boilers, chillers, heat pumps, air handlers, cooling towers, air compressors, etc.
- Available for on-call work.
- Communicate with administrators, personnel, and outside organizations to coordinate activities, resolve issues and conflicts, and exchange information.
- Ability to work in confined spaces and at heights if required.
- Ensures buildings comply with school building code, fire code, and laws/regulations to which school buildings are subject.
- Performs routine and preventive maintenance to ensure the ongoing functioning of systems.
- Ability to work around children.
- Ability to work well with the public.
- Responds to emergencies to address immediate safety concerns.
- Works cooperatively with other maintenance and custodial personnel to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
- Build various items to modify and adapt facilities to specific needs.
- Ability to lift 100 lbs.
- Estimate the cost of materials to ensure the assigned task is completed as efficiently and economically as possible.
- Prepares written materials (e.g., repair status, activity logs, etc.) to document activities and convey information.
- Ability to run small equipment, i.e., backhoes, snowplows, man lifts, etc.
- Assists building custodians with emergencies, snow removal, and other situations that arise.
Safety Requirement
- Follows all applicable safety rules, procedures, and regulations governing the proper use of tools and power equipment used in performing duties.
- Wear appropriate safety gear, including masks, as needed.
- Must comply with the school district's chemical hygiene program and follow the GHS protocol.
Responsibility
Responsibilities include working under limited supervision using standardized practices and methods, completing tasks efficiently and economically, and maintaining a positive work environment while serving a large, diverse group of individuals.

Work Environment
The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling and a significant amount of fine finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires 10% sitting, 45% walking, and 45% standing. This job is performed in a typically clean and healthy environment.
Qualifications
21 years of age or older.
Must have (2) years of related experience.
Valid Utah Driver's License & Evidence of Insurability.
High School Diploma or equivalent.
Experience in a K-12 Education or public employment environment.
Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
