The Maintenance Generalist is responsible for ensuring the proper operation of the Fresno’s Chaffee Zoo Corporation’s (FCZC) facilities and equipment through semiskilled/skilled maintenance, repair and construction.  This position requires collaboration with FCZC staff, contractors and the public to advance the Zoo’s mission by inspiring our guests to care for animals, make connections, build community, and save wildlife.
Full-Time employees receive our comprehensive compensation package which includes 100% employer paid Medical/Dental/Vision, Employee Assistance Program, 401k, 10 Paid Holidays, Paid Sick and Paid Vacation time on an accrued basis. The pay range for this position is $23.35 - $24.52 per hour. Offers will be based on the successful candidate's experience.
ESSENTIAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
•    Performs semi-skilled/skilled plumbing, electrical, general construction, carpentry, painting, and general/preventative maintenance tasks throughout Zoo facilities.
•    Performs a variety of maintenance and repair tasks on buildings, systems, and equipment.
•    Performing routine maintenance tasks to prevent equipment failure and prolong the life of assets.
•    Regularly inspects buildings, systems, and equipment to identify and diagnose potential problems.
•    Reads and understands blueprints and drawings as needed.
•    Follows written and oral instructions, work orders, and specifications to complete maintenance tasks.
•    Moves and replaces soil, debris, asphalt, sand, and other rock and substrates as needed.
•    Utilizes power tools, heavy equipment, welding/metal working equipment, hand tools and other tools to accomplish job tasks.
•    Safely operates and utilizes power tools, heavy equipment (bobcat, telehandler, boom, forklift, scissor lift), welding/metal working equipment, and other tools to accomplish job tasks.
•    Applies safety rules, Occupational Safety & Health regulations and precautions in completing all construction and maintenance work.
•    Maintains accurate records of maintenance and repairs performed on equipment and buildings.
•    Installs equipment and appliances.
•    Orders and maintains necessary supplies and tools.
•    Repairs and maintains plumbing, electrical, and HVAC systems.
•    Repairs walls, floors, ceilings, doors, and windows.
•    Repairs and maintains various types of equipment, such as machinery, tools, and appliances.
•    Performs painting and decorating tasks as needed.
•    Keeps facilities clean and well-maintained.
•    Follows local and state building codes.
•    Follows all safety rules and procedures.
•    Reports any safety concerns to Facilities Manager or Facilities Assistant Manager.
•    Utilizes personal protective equipment (PPE) as needed to safely complete assignments.
•    Completes work orders and projects to meet expected industry standards.
•    Safely operate a vehicle for business purposes including but not limited to going to and from the Zoo’s facilities and offsite.
•    Perform additional responsibilities as assigned to support team and organizational goals.
EDUCATION AND JOB QUALIFICATIONS
•    Minimum of three (3) years of paid construction or equipment maintenance experience required.
•    Minimum three (3) years paid experience complying with safety rules, regulations, and precautions in the maintenance trades required.
•    Minimum one (1) year experience operating various types of machinery including, but not limited to, forklifts, scissor lift, boom lift, bobcat, and pallet jacks required.
•    Minimum one (1) year working with Microsoft Office Suite and other business software preferred.
•    Diploma from a trade school or successful completion of apprenticeship preferred.
•    A valid California driver's license, valid vehicle insurance, enrolled in the CA Employer Pull Notice program and successful completion of the FCZ Drivers Training Program required.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

•    This position is regularly required to bend, stoop, crouch, and kneel; use hands and arms for operation of maintenance tools and heavy equipment.
•    The employee is regularly required to lift or carry up to 50 pounds, and occasionally up to 75 pounds.
•    This position is regularly required to walk up to eight (8) miles daily.
•    Visual acuity to operate machinery and read printed instructions and safety information, and to assess the thoroughness of the work assigned.
•    Color perception is also required.
•    Receive detailed information through oral communication (in person and via telephone), at normal speaking levels with or without correction.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
•    May be required to work at heights including ladders, rooftops, booms, and lifts up to 80’.
•    This position functions both indoors and outdoors, with possible exposure to heat, cold, inclement weather, poor air quality, insects, Zoo environments and external events.
•    The employee may be exposed to environmental substances such as dust/dirt/allergens from Zoo grounds.
•    The position works in close proximity to Zoo animals.
•    Regular local travel and occasional out-of-town travel may be required.
•    Ability to work overtime, evenings, weekdays, weekends, and holidays.
