Maintenance Fitter – Whatley Quarry, Frome

Salary:Up to £50,500 depending on experience + overtime

Location: Whatley, Frome

Hours: Rotating early and late shifts (no nights), 42.5 hours per week

To provide mechanical repair and maintenance skills including fault identification analysis to facilitate repairs, improvements including inspections adjustments and calibration to agreed standards set by the company.

Carry out maintenance and repair operations following the operational and maintenance plan/budget to Improve operational reliability and availability of the plant and machinery at the lowest effective maintenance costs for all equipment, installations and buildings on site.

As Maintenance Fitter you will provide the necessary skills to ensure that the mechanical maintenance for all operational activities and equipment on site is carried out. You will ensure that all planned and preventative maintenance is carried out in accordance with the maintenance plans; you will be responsible for completing daily inspections including identification, reporting and rectification of faults to reduce breakdowns and improve plant reliability.

Key Accountabilities

  • Follow risk assessments and safe systems of work for all maintenance activities
  • Support plant start‑up and shut‑down to optimise performance
  • Operate, inspect and maintain static equipment to meet productivity and maintenance KPIs
  • Carry out repairs, servicing and preventative maintenance to a high standard
  • Coordinate planned shutdowns to ensure safe, efficient maintenance execution
  • Maintain high standards of housekeeping and 5S
  • Accurately record maintenance work using the site CMMS
  • Identify and report equipment faults promptly
  • Ensure workshops, tools and facilities are safe, well organised and compliant
  • Train and support Apprentice Maintenance Technicians
  • Operate machinery safely and in line with regulatory and manufacturer requirements
  • Support capital projects, commissioning and continuous improvement activity
  • Work closely with supervisors on technical and safety matters
  • Contribute to MRO, inventory and spare‑parts management processes
  • Assist with maintenance budgeting and planning
  • Complete all timesheets and documentation accurately and on time
  • Provide maintenance support at nearby Heidelberg Materials sites when required

Education & Qualifications

  • Computer literate with strong understanding of health, safety and quarry regulations
  • Time‑served apprentice or NVQ in Maintenance Engineering, or 5+ years’ relevant maintenance experience
  • Experience in the mineral extractives industry (advantageous)
  • HNC or HND in Engineering (advantageous)
  • Practical welding and burning skills
