Maintenance Engineer - Savli, Vadodara (Gujarat, India )

The Maintenance Engineer is responsible for ensuring the smooth operation, reliability, and efficiency of plant machinery, equipment, utilities, and infrastructure through effective preventive, predictive, and breakdown maintenance practices. The role focuses on minimizing downtime, improving equipment performance, ensuring workplace safety, and supporting production targets through timely maintenance interventions.

Key Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Plan and execute preventive maintenance schedules for production machinery and utility equipment.
  • Implement predictive maintenance techniques to identify potential equipment failures.
  • Monitor machine health and recommend corrective actions to improve reliability.
  • Maintain maintenance records, checklists, and equipment history cards.
  • Attend and resolve machine breakdowns promptly to minimize production losses.
  • Conduct root cause analysis (RCA) of recurring equipment failures.
  • Implement corrective and preventive actions to reduce future breakdowns.
  • Coordinate with production teams to restore equipment operation efficiently.
  • Maintain and monitor production equipment, motors, pumps, compressors, generators, transformers, and utility systems.
  • Ensure optimal performance of electrical and mechanical systems.
  • Monitor utility consumption and identify opportunities for efficiency improvement.
  • Support installation, commissioning, and trial runs of new equipment.
Spare Parts & Inventory Control
  • Identify critical spare parts and maintain adequate inventory levels.
  • Raise purchase requisitions for maintenance consumables and spare parts.
  • Monitor spare parts consumption and optimize inventory costs.
  • Coordinate with procurement and stores departments for timely availability of materials.
Continuous Improvement
  • Identify and implement initiatives to improve equipment reliability and operational efficiency.
  • Participate in Kaizen, TPM, Lean Manufacturing, and productivity improvement projects.
  • Recommend modifications and upgrades to improve machine performance and reduce maintenance costs.
Safety & Compliance
  • Ensure compliance with plant safety standards and maintenance procedures.
  • Adhere to electrical, mechanical, and environmental regulations.
  • Conduct safety inspections and ensure safe maintenance practices.
  • Support statutory inspections and audits related to plant equipment and utilities.
Documentation & Reporting
  • Maintain maintenance logs, service reports, and equipment records.
  • Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance reports.
  • Track key maintenance KPIs such as machine uptime, MTBF, MTTR, and maintenance costs.
  • Update maintenance activities in ERP/CMMS systems.
Team Coordination
  • Coordinate with production, quality, stores, and engineering departments.
  • Supervise maintenance technicians and contractors during maintenance activities.
  • Provide technical guidance and training to maintenance personnel.
  • Maintain maintenance logs, service reports, and equipment records.
  • Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance reports.
  • Coordinate with production, quality, stores, and engineering departments.
  • Supervise maintenance technicians and contractors during maintenance activities.
  • Provide technical guidance and training to maintenance personnel.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

Education and Experience
  • B.E. / B.Tech in Mechanical, Electrical, Electrical & Electronics, or Mechatronics Engineering.
  • 3–8 years of experience in maintenance operations within a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience in maintenance of motors, pumps, compressors, hydraulic and pneumatic systems preferred.
  • Exposure to preventive, predictive, and breakdown maintenance practices.
Skills and Abilities
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical and electrical maintenance.
  • Understanding of motors, pumps, gearboxes, compressors, hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
  • Knowledge of PLCs, VFDs, control panels, and industrial automation.
  • Ability to read engineering drawings, electrical schematics, and technical manuals.
  • Familiarity with TPM, RCA, FMEA, and reliability engineering concepts.
