Heating, Ventilation & Air Conditioning Mechanic (HVAC)
Performs all the duties of a Licensed HVAC including repairs, installs, and replace equipment in Facility and Property
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
• Must have a Journeyman NY Lic
• Safety Devices and Practices which consist of staging; Ladders; Rigging; Ventilation
• Proper use and care of all Tools connected with the Trade
• Reads and understands blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings.
• Rigging and Material Handling. Safely unloading of material, Use of ladders, scaffolding, power lifts and Personnel lifts
• Handling, Storage, and disposal of chemicals and of the refrigerant drums
• Understand Relief Valves; High Pressure Temperature Switches; Fusible Plugs; Low Pressure Temperature Switches
• Familiarization with electrical equipment and circuits; proper groundings; short circuit protecting fusing; starter and contactor overloads motor
• Recovery of chlorofluorocarbon refrigerant gases
• Identification of potential in-place asbestos material and procedures for avoidance and notification of certified Asbestos Handler
• Installation which consists of setting and mounting equipment; hanging methods, fittings; tubing; pipe, vibration elimination; evacuation; venting, insulation, welding soldering, brazing, tanks and piping, heat recovery systems air and water filters
• Soldering of Piping System which consist of Soft Soldering, hard Soldering and Brazing
• Understand Controls which consist of: Thermostatic Switches, Humidistats, Analog Controls: Direct Digital Controls (DDC); Microprocessor Controls; Solid State Controls, Starters; Contactors; Relays; Safeties, Pneumatic Systems Damper, Oil Burner Controls,
• Calibrate Controls: Balance air distribution systems and maintain proper air temperature
• Operation of central and auxiliary computers which monitor, test, control and operate boilers, auxiliary systems, and energy management systems
• Understand Valves which consist of: Expansion Valves- Capillary tubes, Solenoid Valves, Evaporator- Liquid Compressor regulating Valve, Service Valves
• Understand Evaporators which consist of Gravity forced air; low side float; high side float, flooded/dry, low temperature; high temperature; fin type; plates; water cooling, Double refrigerant types: air-conditioning, chilled water-coolers and coils
• Compressors- Understand the characteristics of various types refrigerants, Rotary; reciprocating; semi-sealed belt drive, electric motors-familiarization with characteristics, lubrication; valve adjustment, shop repair and overhaul
• Condensers- Understand Condenser-Received: installation and service, air cooled; water cooled; water towers
• Air Conditioning- Understand aerodynamics; distribution; airflow; sizing, cleaning; dehydrating; cooling; heating, insulating valves, heat recovery, motors: fans, pumps, compressors, air purification and humidifiers
• Testing, Charging, Starting and Adjusting System- Which consist of: Testing for leaks, cleaning and drying: pumping dry air or dry nitrogen through system, charging with refrigerant: making charging connections; charging gas; charging liquid; preparing and charging secondary refrigerants
• Starting and adjusting systems: installing necessary gauges and instruments; adjust refrigerant metering controls; adjusting condensing medium controls
• Installation & Service of Oil and gas Burners which consist of: High-Pressure gun burners, low pressure atomizers, rotary burners, vaporizing burners, gas burners: pulse flame, regular gas burner grate, pilotless ignitions, combusting testing, steam and hot water boilers; firing, cleaning, shut down of system
• Servicing- testing and adjusting of nozzles, ignition, pumps; regulating valves, smoke and soot, noise, and excessive fuel consumption
• Service Methods and shop work which consist of familiarization with machine shop tools and methods, characteristics of general circuits and general troubleshooting
• Familiarization with all Tools, Equipment and Replacement Parts used in Repair and Service: Maintenance and proper Inventory
• Identification of potential in-place asbestos materials and procedures for avoidance and notification of certified asbestos handler
• Maintain Valve Backflow Prevention Program- Document and provide EH&S documentation to keep on file
• Follow all Local, State, and Federal Rules
• Maintains repair records Thru FIIX and/or Velocity
• Constantly improve on Preventive Maintenance Program on our units for Facility. Provide Facility Manager with all documentaion
• Maintains a clean and orderly maintenance shop
SOFT SKILL: Self-disciplined, problem solver, take charge attitude, proactive root cause identification, troubleshoot with team/ problem solve, leadership stability, personality, team oriented, urgency, willing and eager to learn.
HARD SKILL: OSHA Safety Awareness, Confined Space Certification, blueprint interpretation, troubleshoot, preventative maintenance, safety (LOTO), Asbestos Awareness, National, State, and Local Codes

• Candidates need to be able to work on any shift including 3rd shift.

• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
• Work on ladders and /or Manlift which can be up to 50ft
• Be able to work in extreme Hot and Cold temperatures

This position may require work hours outside of the regularly scheduled hours to meet operational needs. This may include work during evenings, weekends, and/or holidays. Additional work hours are assigned based on business requirements. Non-exempt employees will be paid overtime in accordance with applicable federal, state, and local laws.
The salary range for this position reflects a broad spectrum of experience levels. Individual compensation within the range is determined by multiple factors, including relevant experience, education, certifications, job related skills, internal equity, and market conditions.
