Maintenance Electrician

Location: Whatley

Hours: Full Time | Permanent

Salary: £55,000pa plus paid Over time

Are you an experienced Electrical Maintenance Engineer or Electrician looking for a challenging role within a busy industrial environment?

At Heidelberg Materials, we're looking for a skilled Maintenance Electrician to help maximise the reliability, availability, and performance of our plant and equipment. Working as part of an experienced maintenance team, you'll play a key role in ensuring our operations run safely, efficiently, and to the highest standards.

This is an excellent opportunity for a proactive individual who enjoys fault finding, problem-solving, and working with a wide range of electrical systems and technologies.

What You'll Be Doing

As a Maintenance Electrician, you will be responsible for carrying out planned and reactive maintenance activities across site, helping to minimise downtime and support continuous improvement initiatives.

Key responsibilities include:

• Diagnosing faults and carrying out electrical repairs on plant and equipment.
• Performing preventative and corrective maintenance to maximise operational reliability.
• Supporting plant inspections, maintenance shutdowns, and improvement projects.
• Assisting with the implementation and commissioning of capital projects.
• Maintaining compliance with Health & Safety, IMS, and site procedures.
• Liaising with supervisors and operational teams on technical and safety matters.
• Supporting the development and management of critical spare parts strategies.
• Recording maintenance activities using SAP PM systems.
• Participating in occasional weekend and night working during planned and emergency maintenance activities.

Technical Expertise Required

Electrical Installation & Power Distribution

• Working knowledge of LV and HV electrical systems.
• Experience inspecting, testing, and maintaining switchgear, transformers, and cable systems.
• Understanding of electrical protection systems, fault-level analysis, and earth fault protection.
• Experience working to current electrical regulations and industry standards.

Motors, Drives & Controls

• Installation, maintenance, and fault-finding on AC/DC motors.
• Experience with soft starters, slip-ring motors, squirrel cage motors, and liquid starters.
• Knowledge of variable speed drives (VSDs) and motor control systems.
• Understanding of motor vibration analysis and bearing systems.

Instrumentation & Automation

• Experience with process instrumentation and calibration activities.
• Knowledge of weigh systems, load cells, level control devices, gas analysers, and PID controllers.
• Fault finding on PLC-controlled systems and associated SCADA platforms.
• Experience with Allen Bradley, Siemens, Modicon, or similar control systems would be advantageous.

Safety & Compliance

• Experience working with safety-critical systems and interlocks.
• Understanding of PUWER and electrical safety regulations.
• Commitment to maintaining the highest safety standards in an industrial environment.

What We're Looking For

You will be a practical, self-motivated individual with strong troubleshooting skills and a commitment to safe working practices.

Essential Requirements

• Recognised electrical qualification.
• Strong fault-finding and diagnostic experience gained within an industrial, manufacturing, quarrying, or heavy engineering environment.
• Computer literacy and experience using maintenance management systems.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
• Ability to work independently and make sound technical decisions.
• Flexible approach to working hours when operational requirements demand.

Desirable

• SAP PM experience.
• EPIC certification for mobile plant operation.
• NVQ Level 2 in Mobile Plant Operations.
• Knowledge of industrial gases.
• Practical welding and burning experience.
• Experience within the aggregates, cement, quarrying, recycling, or heavy industrial sectors.
