Classification: N-3
Pay Range: $17.00 - $19.00
Work Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM (3 openings)
Reports To: Assistant Director of Custodial Operations.

About the Role: The Custodian is responsible for maintaining the College's visual standards by ensuring that restrooms, hallways, classrooms, and other areas are consistently clean and wellmaintained. Other duties as assigned.

Required Skills & Competencies:


Physical Requirements


Lifting and Carrying:

  • Move, lift, carry, push, pull, and place objects weighing up to 50 pounds without assistance. Heavier lifting or movement tasks should be done with

assistance.


Stair and Ladder Use:

  • Move safely up and down stairs, service ramps, and/or ladders as part of the work.


Travel Requirements:

  • Must be able to travel to various campus buildings using College vehicles.
  • Must hold or be able to obtain an Indiana driver's license.


Physical Stamina:

  • Must be detail-oriented, thorough, and flexible to adapt to changing tasks and environments.
  • Physical effort is required, including heavy lifting, bending, twisting, and working in various environmental conditions (hot and cold).


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including working on ladders, lifting over 50lbs repetitively, twisting, bending, and working in varying environmental conditions.
  • Competence in following both oral and written instructions.


Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience working in an academic or state organization.
• Industry-related training or certifications relevant to custodial work.
• Knowledge of operating and maintaining floor scrubbers, carpet extractors,
commercial equipment and industrial vacuums.
• Knowledge OSHA safety standards.


Major Responsibilities:


The following is not to be construed as an exhaustive list. Other duties logically associated
with this position may be assigned. All responsibilities will be conducted within the
parameters of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), other applicable
regulatory requirements, and professional standards.


Routine Cleaning:

  • Clean and sanitize restrooms, classrooms, common areas, offices, corridors, lounges, carpets, and hard floor surfaces.


Work Order Tasks:

  • Perform cleaning and maintenance tasks assigned through the work order system by Supervisor.

Emergency Response:

  • Respond to emergencies such as spills, accidents, and safety concerns promptly and effectively.

Customer Service and Student Advocacy:

  • Demonstrate strong customer service by being approachable, adaptable, and solution focused. Show a positive attitude and support student success by addressing concerns in a professional manner.

Problem Resolution:

  • Go beyond surface-level answers for problems and work to identify and resolve issues quickly and professionally.

Assist Security:

  • Aid security when needed and ensure proper key control.

Education & Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • A valid driver’s license and insurance coverage as required by the College's insurance carrier.
