Dawson Mine

Our Dawson operation is a large open-cut coal mine and is showing no signs of slowing down! Dawson’s mining process is completed by varied fleets of which this role focuses on the Heavy Mobile Equipment fleet.

It’s not just the interesting large pieces of equipment that you would be working on in the HME workshop, it’s also the placement of Dawson, it is located at the southern end of the Bowen Basin in Central Queensland, being just over a 2hrs drive west from either Rockhampton or Gladstone, or 4.5hrs drive north of the Darling Downs or South Burnett.

Dawson Mine is excited to announce a leadership opportunity for Maintenance Coordinators to join the Engineering & Maintenance team at Dawson Mine on a full-time, permanent basis with Anglo American. Reporting to the Maintenance Superintendent, you will be responsible for the safe and effective planning, delivery, and coordination of maintenance activities across Dawson Mine.

The Maintenance Coordinator leads a team of Maintenance Supervisors, engages with stakeholders (internal and external), and contractor management to ensure HME equipment, infrastructure, and improvement works are delivered to scope, within budget, and meet maintenance business objectives.

As the Maintenance Coordinator, the key accountabilities are:

  • Lead a team of mixed trades’ supervisors, comprising of employees, and embedded contractors to complete quality work per the maintenance schedule.
  • Establish department communications plans and contribute to visible leadership expectations and governance structures.
  • Develop and maintain improvement initiatives, rebuild options, and contingency plans in response to site changes and long-term asset needs.
  • Develop a culture focused on safety and efficiency that will be able to deliver optimal business results.
  • Support effective resource allocation (people, equipment, and resources) to meet maintenance work schedules.
  • Ensure equipment introduced to your department aligns with maintenance strategies, introduction to site, tooling requirements, and rebuild philosophies.
  • Focus on identifying long term process improvement opportunities and delivery of projects to achieve outcomes.
  • Develop team capability through structured training plans, KPI development, and rotation/leave coverage protocols.
  • Coordinate with Procurement and Stores to manage spares, rotables, and tooling availability in line with project delivery.
  • Support identification and execution of improvement opportunities t, including incident reviews and business improvement inputs.
  • Manage OEM relationships across the business.
  • Monitor CPEX and OPEX contract expenditure, validate cost allocations, and report financial performance at month-end.
  • Other requirements as assigned by the Maintenance Superintendent.

Qualifications

To be successful you will have the following:

  • Demonstrated experience and capability in a progressive maintenance leadership role within the Resources industry.
  • Relevant trade qualification and industry experience.
  • Supervisor & Risk Facilitator competencies (S1, 2, 3 & G2, G3).
  • Experience with Root Cause Analysis (RCA) methodology (e.g. Apollo, TapRooT).
  • High Risk Work Licenses (e.g. Forklift, EWP, Dogging/Rigging) preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, hydraulics, pneumatics, OEM knowledge (CAT & Komatsu) and heavy machinery used in mining operations.
  • Previous experience with SAP or a similar ERP will be desirable.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to identify and address mechanical challenges.
  • Adherence to safety regulations and a commitment to creating a safe working environment for all team members.
