Maintenance Assistant

Location: Las Vegas, Nevada

Job Type: Full-Time (W2)

Schedule: Monday–Thursday, 7:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.; Friday, 7:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m.

Pay: $22.00–$25.00 per hour, based on experience

Overtime: As scheduled

Position Summary

Advance Polybag – Nevada, Inc. is seeking a dependable and mechanically inclined Maintenance Technician / Maintenance Assistant to support the safe and efficient operation of our manufacturing facility. This position performs preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, cleaning, lubrication, inspections, and equipment servicing throughout the plant. The position works under the direction of the Plant Maintenance Manager/Engineer. The successful candidate should have hands-on mechanical aptitude, a strong commitment to workplace safety, and the ability to develop their maintenance skills while working with experienced maintenance personnel.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform scheduled preventive maintenance (PM) on bag machines, extrusion equipment, recycling equipment, printing presses, air compressors, forklifts, and other plant machinery.
  • Inspect drives, motors, belts, bearings, filters, pumps, and other machine components.
  • Lubricate and grease bag machines, extruders, and other production equipment according to established PM schedules.
  • Change and clean printing-press dryer air filters and extruder vacuum-pump filters.
  • Maintain clean and organized work areas and perform general facility maintenance as assigned.

Safety Responsibilities

Safety is an essential function of this position. Employees must follow all company safety rules, plant procedures, and applicable regulations. Maintenance employees are expected to

  • Follow Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) requirements whenever applicable.
  • Follow fall-protection, confined-space, and hot-work procedures.
  • Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Follow safe procedures when working around electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, mechanical, and stored-energy systems.
  • Never perform work for which they have not been properly trained or authorized.
  • Stop work and seek assistance when a task or condition is unsafe or outside their level of experience.
  • Immediately report unsafe conditions, equipment defects, injuries, and hazards to management.
  • Work cooperatively with production and other departments to maintain a safe manufacturing environment.

Compliance with company safety rules, plant policies, and operating procedures is a condition of employment.

Tools & Technical Skills

Experience with or willingness to develop proficiency in

  • Hand and power tools
  • Machining tools, including drill press, band saw, and belt sander.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2 years of mechanical, industrial, manufacturing, or maintenance experience preferred. Candidates with less experience may be considered for a Maintenance Assistant/developmental role.
  • Manufacturing experience preferred.
  • General mechanical aptitude and basic electrical knowledge.
  • Experience with bag-making, extrusion, printing, converting, or similar manufacturing equipment is preferred.
  • Ability to troubleshoot mechanical problems and assist with cause-and-effect analysis.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and work cooperatively with maintenance, production, and management.
  • Dependable, safety-conscious, self-motivated, and willing to learn.
  • Ability to work independently after receiving appropriate training and instruction.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to perform the physical requirements associated with industrial maintenance work.
  • Ability and willingness to work scheduled overtime when required.

Preferred Experience

Experience in any of the following is beneficial

  • Plastic-film extrusion equipment
  • Motors, pumps, gearboxes, bearings, and drive systems
  • Electrical troubleshooting and wiring
  • Hydraulics and pneumatics
  • Welding and fabrication
  • Forklift maintenance
  • Preventive maintenance programs

Work Environment

This position works in an active manufacturing environment and may involve exposure to operating machinery, elevated temperatures, noise, moving equipment, electrical systems, hydraulic and pneumatic equipment, and other industrial conditions. Proper PPE and adherence to all safety procedures are required.
