Summary
Under the direction of the assigned supervisor, the Maintenance Aide - Facilities performs custodial duties, basic maintenance, and repair work to facilities and performs related duties as required.

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to the following:
- Cleans and maintains City facilities.
- Opens and secures City facilities.
- Reports noted repairs of facilities or equipment to supervisory staff.
- Performs preventive maintenance on vehicles and equipment.
- Performs setup and cleanup for events and meetings.
- Performs minor building maintenance and repairs, including plumbing, electrical, drywall, carpentry, and painting.
- Maintains and repairs tools and small equipment.
- Maintains maintenance records.
- Removes trash and graffiti from walls, signs, and sidewalks.
- Performs custodial duties according to an established schedule; cleans facilities, exterior grounds, break rooms, restrooms, locker rooms, offices, corridors, and common areas, including vacuuming, sweeping, and mopping.
- Waxes and refinishes floors and shampoos carpets.
- Dusts and polishes furniture, woodwork, and metalwork.
- Empties and cleans waste receptacles.
- Washes windows and walls.
- Operates a variety of equipment, including scrubbers, strippers, buffers, extractors, shampooers, and window washers.
- Moves and rearranges furniture, chairs, desks, tables, etc.
- Performs other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned.
Qualifications
Education, Training and Experience Guidelines:
High school diploma or GED and one (1) year of maintenance experience, including facility maintenance, custodial, construction, or related experience.
Knowledge of:
- Facility and custodial maintenance and repair practices and methods
- Basic carpentry, plumbing, and electrical maintenance and repair methods and practices
- Employee safety practices
- Operation of motorized construction and maintenance equipment and vehicles. Modern cleaning and disinfecting practices
- Effective time management
- Modern office methods, practices, procedures, and equipment, including software and database programs
- English usage, spelling, grammar, punctuation, and basic mathematical principles
Skill and Ability to:
- Provide excellent customer service
- Communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing
- Organize with the ability to prioritize work and exercise independent judgment, wisdom, common sense, and initiative
- Thoroughly carry out verbal and written instructions
- Use patience, tact, diplomacy, and courtesy in dealing with the public and employees
- Use initiative, discretion, and judgment within established procedures, guidelines, and rules
- Operate power and basic hand tools and motorized equipment and vehicles

- This position works primarily in an indoor office environment

- Work is performed in a variety of environmental conditions, both indoors and out and with exposure to diverse weather conditions such as wind, heat, cold, and rain

- Incumbents will be required to respond to emergencies after regular working hours and on weekends, and must be willing to work an irregular schedule, which may include weekends, holidays, evenings, and/or varying shifts
