Job Shift: AnyThe Facility Maintenance Technician is responsible for maintaining the overall functionality, safety, and appearance of the Morgan Steel facility. This role supports production by ensuring all building systems, equipment, and infrastructure are operating efficiently. The technician will perform preventative maintenance, troubleshoot issues, and complete repairs across the warehouse, fabrication areas, and office spaces.
Duties & Key Responsibilities
Facility & Building Maintenance
- Perform routine inspections of the facility, including shop floors, offices, restrooms, and exterior areas
- Maintain building systems such as lighting, HVAC, plumbing, and electrical components
- Repair doors, docks, fencing, and structural elements as needed
- Ensure cleanliness and organization of maintenance areas and storage rooms
Equipment & Systems Support
- Conduct basic maintenance on shop equipment (non-specialized), including:
- - Overhead doors and dock levelers
- - Air compressors and pneumatic systems
- - Basic electrical troubleshooting (lighting, outlets, minor wiring)
- Coordinate with external vendors for specialized repairs (HVAC, cranes, machinery)
- Assist with preventative maintenance schedules to minimize downtime
Preventative Maintenance
- Perform scheduled maintenance tasks across the facility
- Maintain maintenance logs and documentation of completed work
- Identify potential issues and proactively recommend solutions
Safety & Compliance
- Ensure all work is performed in accordance with OSHA and company safety standards
- Maintain safe working conditions and address hazards immediately
- Support safety initiatives, inspections, and audits
General Support
- Assist with facility improvements and small projects (painting, layout changes, installations)
- Support production teams with urgent maintenance needs
- Respond quickly to maintenance requests to minimize operational disruptions
Qualifications
- Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting ability
- Basic knowledge of electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems
- Ability to use hand tools, power tools, and maintenance equipment safely
- Strong attention to detail and organization
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Effective communication across departments
- Problem-solving mindset with a “fix it right the first time” approach
Preferred
Qualifications
- 2+ years of facility or industrial maintenance experience (steel/manufacturing environment preferred)
- Experience working in warehouse or fabrication settings
- Basic electrical certification or technical training (a plus)
- Forklift and/or aerial lift experience (or willingness to become certified)
Education & Experience
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Technical training or trade school education preferred
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 50–75 lbs regularly
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and climb throughout the shift
- Comfortable working at heights and using ladders or lifts
- Ability to work in varying temperatures (warehouse environment)
