Mainscale Teacher, January to June 2027 - Kennedy School

Kennedy School is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and dedicated Mainscale Classroom Teacher commencing January to June 2027. The position will be on a temporary contract, teaching Year 6. This position requires teachers with recent experience in teaching older students using the PYP framework and ideally someone who has working knowledge of the Year 6 exhibition process, which is the culminating learning experience in Term 3.

Brief Job Overview:

The primary role of the classroom teacher is to design learning experiences that are accessible to all students. Recognising that every child learns differently, the teacher plans with this diversity in mind from the outset, moving away from a "one-size-fits-all" approach.

As a teacher at Kennedy School, you will set high expectations for all learners while providing the flexible options they need to reach them. This involves proactively identifying and removing barriers so that every student can engage deeply and succeed. Through constant reflection and a commitment to providing students with choice and voice, you will empower every child to become a motivated, independent and successful learner.

Beyond the classroom, you will collaborate with the school community to foster an environment where students belong, learn, and thrive. You will also build strong partnerships with parents and caregivers through clear, consistent communication.

As a valued member of our team, you will contribute to the development of school initiatives and help put our shared goals into practice. To ensure the smooth running of the school, all teachers also participate in school-wide activities and additional duties as needed.

Key Responsibilities

Teaching and Assessment:

• Collaboratively plan learning engagements which meet student’s individual needs and ensure student’s progression and well being
• Use a range of effective strategies for teaching, learning engagement and classroom management
• Use flexible groupings and structured inquiry to deliver high quality learning in line with the IBO philosophy
• Work with students to guide and empower them through the exhibition process.
• Maintain a well-organised and student-centred learning environment
• Use learning technologies to enhance and innovate learning
• Use transition information to guide the learning journey for all students
• Use a range of assessment methods and approaches to highlight student’s achievements and to identify their strengths and stretches
• Provide clear and constructive feedback to students, their parents and caregivers

Wider professional roles:

• Plan and engage in professional learning activities that support school and systematic priorities
• Take responsibility for your own professional development and use the outcomes to improve teaching and students’ learning
• Make an active contribution to the school guidelines and aspirations of the school
• Ensure administration of classroom procedures are completed efficiently
• Collaborate with members of the school community to build a team environment that supports students’ learning and wellbeing

Additional responsibilities may include:

• Assist with or manage an aspect of daily school management
• Assist year-level leaders, coordinators, the principal and vice principals with the performance of specific functions
• Assist with or manage a specialist function such as sport, student welfare, excursions or camp coordination
• Supervise a range of student activities including support and welfare initiatives
• To perform other duties and assume accountabilities as apparent or as delegated, including mutually agreed-upon objective

General Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Education or a Bachelor’s degree in any subject with a Postgraduate
• Certificate/Diploma in Education (PGCE/PGDE)
• *iPGCE (assessment only) is not eligible for Teacher Registration status by the Hong Kong Education Bureau
• Knowledge and practical teaching experience working with the PYP, particularly in the upper primary years.
• Newly qualified teachers or teachers early in their teaching careers with teaching experience within a recognised educational institute may apply. It is important to note that ideally we are looking for someone with more teaching experience within the PYP context for this role.

About the Team

ESF Kennedy School occupies a pleasant location on the west of Hong Kong Island. It benefits from the use of the swimming and sporting facilities of The University of Hong Kong’s Stanley Ho Sports Centre, which is adjacent to the school.
