We are welcoming applications for a Construction Trade Technician on a full time (35 hours) Permanent basis. The City of Liverpool College is the only general FE college in the city and the largest FE college in Liverpool City Region.
It offers the widest, most diverse vocational curriculum in the region and ranges from entry up to degree and post-graduate levels and currently serves more than a third of all the 16–18-year-olds in Liverpool and educates almost 12,000 learners each year, with all courses being delivered to the highest standard of learning.

Responsible to: Head of Sustainable Construction and Built Services
Key Responsibilities
Technical functions
- Utilise knowledge of the area of work to support an effective, user-friendly and professional service.
- Provide general support for the teaching of students in the area.
- Set up and operate a range of machinery/equipment to an agreed service level.
- Demonstrate a range of basic skills and equipment to staff / students and instruct them on the safe use of equipment and techniques.
- Support the design of the equipment / workshop layout.
- Carry out maintenance tasks including a range of testing to ensure equipment remains in a safe and good working condition.
- Carry out routine record keeping ensuring accurate records are maintained.
- Transport goods and equipment using trolleys / vehicles and complete site set up.
Health and Safety
- Comply with internal and external health and safety guidelines, instructions and regulations.
- Ensure workshop / area is maintained in a clean and tidy manner.
Customer service/quality related
- Ensure high levels of customer service promoting a positive image of the College.
- Identify problems and issues and respond to complaints or queries and where appropriate refer on to the appropriate person.
- Comply with set quality standards and procedural instructions.
Finance/security related
- Identify shortfall in stocks and consumables / basic equipment to ensure that adequate supplies and resources are maintained.
- Where it is identified as necessary handle cash / cash equivalents.
- Comply with college security, stock control, cash-handling procedures, standards and audit requirements.
- Comply with financial regulations within own area of work.
General
- Help to ensure through good working practices that the objectives, values and aims of the Pillar and the college are achieved on time.
Key Accountabilities & Responsibilities for Pillar
- Ensure correct equipment and/or material is available in a timely way to support students and staff in brickwork & plastering workshop sessions.
All staff will be expected to:
- Carry out such other relevant and appropriate duties within the framework of a post of this grade that may from time to time be required at a location determined by the needs of the service.
- To make full use of new technology in all aspects of job requirements.
- To attend and participate in section meetings and development groups.
- To participate fully in staff development and practice, including available in-service training opportunities, the delivery of in-service training to others in the area of specific responsibility, and the college appraisal scheme.
Due to the changing nature of our work, this job description serves as a framework to outline the main areas of responsibility. You may be required to undertake other activities of a similar nature that fall within the remit of your area of work.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
Essential:
- Relevant sector practical experience and trade skills.
- Experience of maintaining trade equipment
- Experience in the effective use of Microsoft Office applications and / or other computer packages including Word documents and Excel spreadsheets.
- Relevant maintenance knowledge within domestic, commercial and industrial applications.
- Good practical skills and the ability to demonstrate to others.
- Prior industry/college experience of brickwork and/or plastering trades.
- Trained in manual handling
Desirable:
- A recognised Teaching qualification or substantial vocational experience
- Industry experience in the construction sector
- Ability to set high standards for students, colleagues and for themselves
- Experience of resource-based learning
- Experience of developing remote and online based learning and materials
- Membership of a relevant professional body
- Experience of assessing students’ needs and planning curriculum for their benefit including
- Technology Enhanced Learning
- Good understanding of curriculum development to meet the training needs of employers
- Good understanding of quality assurance and improvement processes
