GENERAL SUMMARY
?The District Mail Courier is responsible for the timely, secure, and efficient pickup and delivery of interoffice mail, documents, packages, supplies, and other authorized materials between Jasper County School District schools, offices, and other designated locations.
The courier supports the daily operations of the District by ensuring that materials are transported accurately, confidentially, and according to established schedules and procedures. This is a part-time, hourly position, with work hours based on the operational needs of the District.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Pick up and deliver interoffice mail, correspondence, documents, packages, and other materials among District schools, administrative offices, and designated locations.
Follow an established daily or weekly delivery route and schedule.
Sort and organize mail and materials to ensure accurate and efficient delivery.
Maintain the confidentiality and security of personnel records, student information, financial documents, and other sensitive or confidential materials being transported.
Obtain signatures or other documentation of delivery when required.
Transport District documents, deposits, supplies, small equipment, and other authorized materials as assigned.
Make authorized pickups or deliveries to outside locations, including governmental offices, financial institutions, postal facilities, vendors, or other locations as needed.
Communicate promptly with the supervisor regarding delays, delivery issues, vehicle concerns, or other problems that may affect assigned duties.
Maintain accurate delivery logs, or other documentation as required by the District.
Ensure District mail and materials remain secure and are not left unattended in unsecured locations.
Operate District vehicles in a safe and responsible manner when a District vehicle is provided.
Comply with all District policies, procedures, safety requirements, and applicable traffic laws.
Maintain a professional and courteous manner when interacting with District employees, students, parents, vendors, and members of the public.
Assist with other light delivery, pickup, or operational duties as assigned.
Perform other related duties as assigned by the supervisor or designee.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or GED preferred.
Must possess a valid driver's license and maintain an acceptable driving record.
Must be able to safely operate a motor vehicle.
Ability to follow established routes, schedules, written instructions, and verbal directions.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise appropriate judgment when handling sensitive District information.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Ability to communicate effectively and professionally.
Must successfully complete all District-required background screening and employment requirements.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Dependable, punctual, and able to manage time effectively.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Ability to prioritize deliveries and complete assigned routes efficiently.
Ability to maintain accurate records.
Knowledge of or ability to learn the locations of District schools, offices, and facilities.
Ability to handle confidential information appropriately.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with District employees and the public.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
The employee must be able to:
Sit and drive for periods of time throughout the workday.
Frequently enter and exit a vehicle.
Walk, stand, bend, reach, and carry materials as necessary to perform assigned duties.
Lift and carry packages, mail bins, supplies, and other materials weighing up to 25 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation.
Safely perform duties in varying weather and environmental conditions.
WORK SCHEDULE
This is a part-time, hourly position The employee will work according to a schedule established by the District based on operational needs. Work hours may vary depending on delivery schedules, school calendars, and District needs.
The employee is required to accurately record all hours worked and may not exceed authorized work hours without prior approval from the appropriate supervisor.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed in District schools, administrative offices, vehicles, and other designated locations. The employee may be exposed to varying weather conditions while completing pickups and deliveries.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
Part-time, hourly, non-exempt position.
Compensation will be based on the Jasper County School District approved salary/pay schedule.
Employment is subject to applicable District policies, procedures, and employment requirements.
Continued employment requires maintaining a valid driver's license and satisfactory driving record.
EVALUATION
Performance will be evaluated by the Director of Transportation or designee in accordance with Jasper County School District procedures.
