Job Description

The role of the Mechanical Maintenance position is to make machine parts or other equipment required for production or maintenance as well as rebuild, repair or perform equipment overhaul.

Key Responsibilities

  • Determine most efficient setup and operation of machine tools taking into consideration type of material, tolerances, types of cutting tools, coolants, lubricants and machine tool speeds and feeds.
  • Rebuild, repair or overhaul all types of manufacturing and other equipment. Make or repair parts as required.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, work from verbal or written instructions or parts to be copied or fitted to plan setup and operation on all types of basic or specialized machine tools.
  • Determine specifications for inspection of work and using full range of precision measuring and gauging tools, perform all required inspection before, during and after machining.
  • Perform welding and brazing as required.
  • Use all machinist hand tools. Exhibit a thorough knowledge of mechanical principles involved in repair and overhaul work including timing, synchronizing and aligning the mechanical action so that, under power, the assemblies are mechanically coordinated.
  • Set up process manufacturing and other equipment, under power, testing for mechanical difficulties, tracing to their source and correcting.
  • Perform Preventative Maintenance inspection of assigned equipment, including those related to building, machinery and as a support service to production, report findings and take appropriate action. Write and perform maintenance work orders as required.
  • Perform initial set up and try out of new tooling; noting tool operation and necessary modifications, rework, inspection and repair in production machinery. Remove and install production dies as assigned and keep them in repair.
  • Maintain production tooling by replacement and grinding worn tools such as rings and punches. Inspect work, record disbursement of tools and recommend purchase of necessary stock and supplies.
  • Refer unusual or critical needs to supervisor.
  • Install and/or change the layout of machines and mechanical equipment in a plant; layout and assemble as necessary, conforming to building codes and similar specifications. Perform duties such as dismantling, moving, installing or repairing shafting, conveyors, hoists and other equipment. Use measuring devices in constructing machine foundations and installing machines and equipment in correct position.
  • Perform required painting, required cement, mortar and plastering work and required carpentry work. Make crates, scaffolds, etc. Perform building maintenance, such as repairing floors, windows, doors, and roofs.
  • Perform metal forming, welding, brazening, guard work, and sheet metal fabrication and installation. Maintain duct work cleaning and repairing as required.
  • Perform repair and maintenance work on all industrial and small motorized equipment with gas, diesel, propane and electrical motors.
  • Perform pipefitting and plumbing work. Install, repair and maintain plumbing and piping systems and equipment Operate and maintain heating systems, boilers, pumps, mixers, compressors and other related equipment.
  • Prepare Bill of Materials needed for new work and layout work and materials to be used; estimates completion time requisitions materials required. Maintain an inventory of standard mill items.
  • Grinds various rings, punches and other metal forming dies on daily basis
  • Provides sizes for tooling to vendors as needed
  • Daily inventory of all ironing tooling
  • Inspects and verifies measurements and quality of all ironing tooling
  • Verifies calibration of precision grinding and measuring machines
  • In charge of maintenance and proper operation of all tool room equipment
  • Operate equipment and assist on production floor as directed

Requirements

  • Familiar with Personal Protective Equipment
  • Minimum 5+ previous mechanical/fast-paced manufacturing experience
  • High School diploma or equivalent required
  • Demonstrated mathematical and mechanical aptitude
  • Knowledge of the methods, practices, tools and equipment of the machinist trade.
  • Knowledge of the machining qualities, properties and uses of various metals such as aluminum, brass, steel, cast iron and stainless steel as well as non-metallic materials.
  • Skill in the operation of machine tools and the use of precision measuring devices.
  • Proven skills in layout, parts fabrication, blueprint reading, metal and materials, rigging, mechanical principles and repairs, operation of machine tools
  • Able to stand for a long duration of time, in excess of 8 hours a day
  • Able to bend over and rotate body repeatedly
  • Able to lift 50 pounds floor to waist
  • Ability to squat for 2+ minutes at a time
  • Able to move wrists for fine movements
  • Able to push/pull 100+ of static force
  • Exposure to heat, cold, vibrations, odors/fumes, and loud noise
  • Willing and able to work overtime, weekends, holidays and night shifts if needed
