Job Description

Machinist / Trainee

REPORTS TO: Tooling Shop Supervisor

DIRECT REPORTS: N/A

FLSA STATUS: Hourly Non-Exempt

ROLE: Responsible for servicing and rebuilding form tools, trim tools, and extrusion components according to Genpak’s procedures, manually machining parts in support of tooling service and plant tooling needs, maintaining a clean and safe work environment, and work with minimal supervision.

KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITES:

  • Trim tool rebuilds
  • Trim tool repairs
  • Mold base repairs
  • Plug base repairs
  • Machining and servicing extrusion cone, die, die adapter, and choker ring
  • Machining with various manual machinery
  • Produce accurate tooling service and machining records
  • Daily housekeeping
  • Deep cleaning for various audits and/or visits
  • Assisting in machinery maintenance

  • Demonstrate ability to participate in departmental and interdepartmental communication and teamwork
  • Demonstrate effective and diplomatic written and verbal communication
  • Demonstrate ability to work under pressure, meet scheduled and/or emergency deadlines without loss of efficiency or composure

Technical Knowledge:

  • Demonstrate ability to operate vertical and horizontal band saws
  • Demonstrate ability to operate a fork truck
  • Demonstrate ability to operate parts cleaners
  • Demonstrate ability to operate dry ice blaster
  • Demonstrate ability to operate the sand blasting cabinet
  • Demonstrate ability to operate disc sander
  • Demonstrate ability to operate a pneumatic pencil grinder and die grinder
  • Demonstrate ability to accurately read any needed measuring equipment
  • Demonstrate ability to read and follow direction from blueprints, sketches, or copying sample parts
  • Demonstrate ability to operate manual
  • Demonstrate ability to operate automatic surface grinders
  • Demonstrate ability to operate manual mills to machine simple parts to spec.
  • Demonstrate ability to operate manual lathes to machine simple parts to spec.
  • Demonstrate ability to operate overhead bridge crane and jib cranes
  • Demonstrate ability to operate various hand tools and magnetic base drills
  • Demonstrate ability to operate hydraulic press and arbor press
  • Demonstrate ability to tear down, repair, and reassemble various form tools
  • Demonstrate ability to tear down, repair, and reassemble various trim tools to specs
  • Demonstrate ability to assist in determining root causes of tooling issues
  • Demonstrate ability to understand, analyze, and repair mold fluid circuitry

  • Tape Measure
  • 12” Scale
  • 6” Dial Calipers
  • 0”-3” Outside Diameter mics
  • Hex key (Allen wrenches)wrench set 0.050”-3/8”
  • Adjustable wrench (Crescent wrench) 8”, 10”, or 12”
  • 0005” or 0.0010” test indicator
  • Edge finder
  • Dead blow hammer
  • 0”-3” depth mic
  • Pair of precision 1-2-3 blocks
  • Hex key socket set 5/32”-3/8”
  • 3/8” drive ratchet
  • 1” travel indicator
  • Attainment of additional tools will be necessary during tenure

  • Can demonstrate ability to prioritize multi-task duties without loss of efficiency or composure
  • Demonstrates ability to manage time properly for efficient and effective results
  • Demonstrate ability to complete tasks within expected time frames

Quality:

  • Demonstrate ability to maintain accurate records for all tooling service history and data collection
  • Demonstrate ability to make parts to specification
  • Demonstrate ability to service tooling to required specification

Safety:

  • Demonstrate ability to comply with major Federal and State industrial safety regulations and industry and professional standards
  • Demonstrate ability to understand and actively participate in all company safety programs, policies and procedures

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • High School diploma or GED
  • 3-5 years of related work experience
  • Any mechanical aptitude training or machining education is a plus
  • Will be trained and certified for fork truck operation

office and/or manufacturing environment
