Job Description

of the Position:

Perform functions assigned in the set up and operation of machine tools applying knowledge

of machining methods. Fabricate, modify, or repair precision mechanical instruments. May also fabricate and modify parts to make or repair machine tools or maintain industrial machines, applying knowledge of mechanics, shop mathematics, metal properties, layout, and machining procedures.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Learn and understand the proper operation of your machine, reporting any problems to Management
  • Use and be able to read micrometers and bore gauges
  • Center chucks on machine to accept parts for grinding
  • Machine indicate or "zero" parts on machines
  • Machine parts to the specifications called for on "Travelers"
  • Properly lubricate grinding equipment and parts
  • Know and understand the dust recovery system and associated safety rules, and the potential exposures to grinding dust and dressing rock dust

Other Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Must speak, read and write the English language
  • Should have basic computer software skills
  • Prior work experience in conventional machining (Mill / Lathe) helpful but not required.
  • Should be able to read blueprints
  • Have knowledge of and understand the Control of Non-conforming product
  • Have knowledge and understanding of Suspected Unapproved Parts
  • Have knowledge and understanding of all safety procedures applicable to the job or jobs being performed
  • Have an understanding of how to look up SDS on any chemical they may come in contact with

Qualifications

Education / Experience Requirements:

  • Must have H.S. Diploma or GED

Language Skills

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

  • Is occasionally required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl; and lift up to 80 pounds.

  • Works in moderate noise levels.
  • Lift parts and part chucks up to 80lbs.
  • No vision requirements.
