BRIEF POSTING DESCRIPTION:

The M GD MAINTENANCE - MAALAEA Department of the M GENERATION Division at Hawaiian Electric Company has 1 Bargaining Unit vacancy available. (Role: NON_EXEMPT)

JOB FUNCTION:

Installs and maintains power plant mechanical equipment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

As a Machinist at the maximum level, performs the following duties. As a Machinist at lower levels, performs the following duties under direction or direct supervision in accordance with the various stages of training.

  • Works from blueprints, sketches and written or oral instructions.
  • Assembles, dismantles, cleans and repairs power plant rotating and mechanical equipment during operational or overhaul periods.
  • Works with other trades in dismantling, inspecting, and repairing generators, exciters, motors, and mechanical equipment.
  • Installs new and reconditioned power plant machinery.
  • Realigns and balances all types of rotating equipment.
  • Services and repairs lubricating oil systems.
  • Repairs cranes and hoists, air compressors, ventilating systems, and fans.
  • Uses and repairs all precision hand tools and power operated tools.
  • Sets up and operates all machine tools such as lathes, boring mills, shapers, milling machines and drill presses. Knows properties and uses of metals. Makes machine parts; may be required to machine metals and parts to original tolerances.
  • Performs necessary rigging for machinist work and performs general maintenance work.
  • Operates material-handling equipment and vehicles as required.
  • Assume an emergency management role, as assigned, and perform specific assignments or functions, as needed, in an event of an emergency, not to include routine trouble calls/callouts.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Directs the work of personnel in lower classifications on any or all of the above operations.
  • Performs similar and incidental duties as required.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must pass Company Written Job Knowledge Test (1st Year).
  • Graduate of Machinist Apprentice Program or equivalent training and experience.

Work Hours: 7:00 am - 3:30 pm
