Job Description

Machinist II

Location: Chaska, MN (On-site, Monday–Friday)
Employment Type: Full-Time
Compensation: $25 – $33/hour

Our client is a leading aerospace and defense manufacturer producing complex, tight-tolerance precision parts. They're hiring an experienced Machinist II to set up and operate a mix of conventional and CNC machine shop equipment — manual lathes, manual mills, CNC machining centers, and cylindrical grinders — to produce high-precision production and tooling parts.

This role is well suited to a machinist who works well independently, enjoys mentoring others, and takes ownership of quality from setup through final inspection.

What You'll Do

  • Set up and operate CNC and manual machine shop equipment safely, efficiently, and consistently with minimal supervision
  • Manufacture production and tooling parts using a variety of tools, equipment, and materials
  • Perform in-process and final inspections using precision measuring equipment (calipers, micrometers, depth gauges, vision systems)
  • Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, tolerances, GD&T, setup sheets, routers, and ECNs
  • Generate work instructions, setup sheets, and programs for machining operations
  • Interpret SPC data and performance metrics to support problem-solving and process control
  • Troubleshoot machining issues and recommend process improvements
  • Perform routine equipment maintenance
  • Train and mentor other machinists on machining processes
  • Review documentation to verify methods, tooling, and equipment will produce conforming product

What You Bring

  • Proven experience setting up and operating CNC and manual machine shop equipment (lathes, mills, grinders)
  • Strong blueprint/GD&T reading and interpretation skills
  • Hands-on precision measuring experience (calipers, micrometers, vision systems, etc.)
  • Ability to work independently with little supervision, while multitasking across job priorities
  • Experience training or mentoring less experienced machinists
  • Comfortable interpreting SPC data and troubleshooting production issues
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen (ITAR/export control requirement)

Work Environment

  • Manufacturing/machine shop environment with exposure to fluids, fumes, noise, vibration, and moving mechanical parts
  • Ability to stand for extended periods (7-8 hrs/day), plus sit, walk, bend, and move around the facility
  • Ability to lift/move up to 40 lbs regularly, occasionally up to 70 lbs
  • Overtime and weekend work required as job duties demand
  • No travel required

Benefits

Competitive hourly pay plus incentive compensation, medical/dental/vision, life and disability insurance, 401(k) with company match, tuition assistance, paid vacation/sick/personal time, paid holidays, and flexible scheduling including compressed workweek options.

Equal Opportunity Employer – M/F/IWD/Veterans. Veterans encouraged to apply.
