Job Description

Precision is a craft. At Cooper Machinery Services, it's also a legacy. For nearly 200 years, the machines we build and service have powered the natural gas industry that keeps the world running — and it's the hands of skilled machinists that make that reliability possible.

As a Machinist I, you'll turn raw stock into precision parts that restore and rebuild critical turbocharger and compressor components — work that lands in the field, not the landfill. If you take pride in tight tolerances, clean finishes, and a job done right the first time, we want you on our shop floor. This position will give you opportunity to learn and grow, and advance your machining career.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • Machine parts to precise specifications using manual lathes, mills, and drills.
  • Repair and restore components supporting Cooper's turbocharger service business.
  • Read blueprints, drawings, and job cards to determine dimensions, tolerances, and finish requirements.
  • Perform dimensional layout and inspection on finished parts, completing all required documentation.
  • Set up and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, and accessories for each job.
  • Monitor feed, speed, and machine offsets throughout the machining process.
  • Deburr, stamp, and finish parts to spec, and keep your work area clean and safe.
  • Follow all PPE and safety protocols, including safe lifting and machine guarding practices.

WHO YOU ARE

  • High school diploma or GED from an accredited school required.
  • 0–2 years of manual machining experience — oil & gas, power, heavy equipment, or automation & controls background a plus.
  • Comfortable with precision measuring tools: dial and Vernier calipers, ID mics, depth mics, ball mics.
  • Able to lift 40+ lbs. and perform physical work including standing, bending, and kneeling.
  • Willing to work overtime, weekends, and holidays as production demands.
  • Solid math and computer skills, with the ability to read and apply technical drawings.
  • A safety-focused, dependable team player with a strong sense of urgency and pride in your craft.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Vo-Tech certificate in machining or a related trade.
  • Forklift, pallet jack, or crane operation certification.
  • Familiarity with oilfield assemblies and parts.
