Job Description
Serves an 8000, 6000, 4000-hour (or the equivalent of, based on prior experience) apprenticeship and related education to become proficient at supporting manufacturing by supplying high-performance tooling, machinery, machine parts, or equipment. Builds, repairs, or modifies existing machines, machine parts, equipment, and tooling to produce high-quality products. Performs various phases of operations necessary to cut and shape metal to precise dimensions. Shift may vary during apprenticeship.
Expectations:
- Will spend a minimum of 144 hours per year (outside of work time) completing the designated course work requirement of the apprenticeship. Must complete all offered courses.
- Will learn and perform the duties and responsibilities of Tooling, Grinding, and Maintenance/AR Machinists by spending designated hours in each machine shop area as outlined in the Standards of Apprenticeship governed by the Bureau of Apprenticeship & Training, U.S. Department of Labor. - Course work percentage of completion must remain in line with work hours percentage of completion. Regardless of a 4000, 6000, or 8000 apprenticeship programs.
- Must be able to collaborate with multiple people across multiple shifts within our Operation Support Value stream. Our customers that encompass production, support teams, and internal and external team members require dynamic and respectful communication, collaboration, and focus on completing the needed task.
- Must be customer-oriented, focused, and demonstrate dedication and work with all types of personalities.
- Must have a positive attitude, embrace new opportunities, work well in teams, work independently staying on task, and take work direction.
NON-ESSENTIAL
- Cleans area by keeping tools picked up and organized. Cleans machines, sweeps and mops as needed. Wipes up grease and spills as needed.
- Performs any other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- 2-years of high school or college level machine shop classes (or related trade, i.e., auto mechanics, welding, pre-engineering, etc.); and/or 2 years previous employment in a machining related field. Preference is given to candidates who achieved a “B” average grade or higher in machine shop classes.
- 2-year credit toward apprenticeship hours will be given to individuals who possess a 3.0 GPA in an accredited 2+ year Technical/College Machinist technology program within a year and a half of hiring. Credentials must be validated before consideration and course subject must meet specific guidelines related to the CCI/Speer apprenticeship program. Preference will be given to those candidates that have this qualification.
- Must be able to pass the required screening exams with a score of 85% or higher.
- Must be able to understand English.
- Must be able to read, write, and perform basic math calculations and be able to recognize improbable results.
- Must be able to learn set-up and operation of all required machines and machine tools within the department during the apprenticeship.
- Must have a good safety record.
- Must have good housekeeping and organizational skills.
- Must supply own hand tools (appropriate type and amount for position), as well as continue to grow personal tool list as required upon completion of apprenticeship.
- Ability to work independently without continual supervision.
- Must be able to work any shift.
- Internal Applicants only: must have no attendance or disciplinary actions/ written warnings in previous 12 months.
Work Environment:
Employee work assignments may include tasks working with and/or exposure to potentially hazardous areas, including flammables and explosives. Safety training is provided to all employees to ensure compliance with company and federal regulations.
Pay Range:
Hourly Rate: $23.07 - $38.33
The actual annual salary offered to a candidate will be based on variables including experience, geographic location, education, and skills/achievements, and will be mutually agreed upon at the time of offer.
